Editor reviews

Dr. Bill Creasy of Logos Bible Study uses a literary, historical approach to examine and enliven the bible for modern listeners. Dr. Creasy draws on his studies, travels, and personal anecdotes to depict a vivid picture of the works of scripture. Somewhere between a sermon and a college lecture, he delivers these audiobooks with authority but a pleasantly friendly voice and a touch of fun, using contemporary references.

In this lesson, Dr. Creasy posits that most people who study the bible merely pay lip service to The Book of Leviticus. But, as the central, pivotal, book of the Torah and the only one predominantly told from God’s perspective, Dr. Creasy articulates it as a thrilling book, worth attention.

Summary

Some think Leviticus is a “boring” book, yet it springs to life with the masterful storytelling skills of Dr. Bill Creasy. Listen as he weaves the texture, tone, and color of daily Israelite life during this amazing period of biblical history. With its emphasis on personal holiness, atonement, and sacrifice for sins, Leviticus separates the Israelites from their surrounding culture, calling them to be holy, as God is holy. Join Logos Bible Study as we journey through this amazing book full of curious codes and rules that lay the foundation for what will become our relationship with Jesus Christ.

Eye Opening!

This book showed me not only how little I know about Leviticus but also how much can be learned once the proper context is in place.

I've just finished and I'm rereading the original book with fresh eyes. A must listen!

Excellent Bible Study

I also posted this on Amazon.com. This series contains the audio from class lectures by Dr. Bill Creasy.

Dr. Creasy covers each book verse-by-verse, providing context to the material by explaining other passages in the Bible that may relate to a passage under study, with descriptions of corresponding historical events and the geography and their relationship to the passage, as well as anecdotes from his travels or study. I find it extremely helpful to study the Bible in context with geography and history.

As explained in the opening lesson on Genesis, this study starts with Genesis in the Old Testament, then moves to Matthew in the New Testament, then Exodus and Leviticus in the Old Testament, then back to Mark in the New Testament, and so on. Dr. Creasy does this because 1) if covered in weekly segments, as done in his class, it would be in year 5 before he got to Matthew, and 2) to help show the relationship between Old Testament and New Testament.

This is the fourth in the Logos Bible Study series, preceded by Exodus and followed by Mark.

What does Dr. Bill Creasy bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The book Leviticus is one of the hardest books to keep focus on while reading or listening to the Bible. Dr. Creasy brings the book to life and offer insight by referencing the New Testament multiple times.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Dr. Creasy has a wonderful sense of humor for some very sensitive topics.

Do Not Skip Leviticus!!

If you are going through Dr. Creasy's lectures, you may be tempted to skip this one, but don't! When I would read Leviticus on my own, I would get so bogged down. I had a hard time understanding it and connecting with it, until now.
Dr. Creasy, through this reading, helped me to understand and connect with Leviticus. I especially enjoyed how Dr. Creasy connected the sacrifices in Leviticus to Jesus. This connection in particular brought me closer to Jesus and gave me more appreciation what He has done for us all. When Dr. Creasy explained that the person offering the sacrifice would place their hands on the animal, look at the animal, and identify themselves (their sin) with the animal, I pictured myself putting my hands on Jesus's face while on the Cross, looking into Jesus's eyes, and realizing this perfect, unblemished person is sacrificing Himself for my sin.

There is more more symbolism, so don't miss out.
