Summary

"I bet I can untangle you."

At an airport baggage claim, Penny Darling looks up from her knotted mess of earbuds to find the sexiest hunk of man she's ever seen. He's got a military haircut and a scar through his eyebrow, and he's rocking a pastel pink dress shirt like only a real man can. But Penny is on a man-free diet, so she leaves the airport without succumbing to his delicious double entendres...or his dreamy dimples.

PI Russ Macklin can't take his eyes off Penny. As she sashays out of the airport with hips swaying and curls bouncing, he suspects they may share more than just sweltering chemistry. That suitcase she's rolling along behind her? It looks a lot like his. Because it is.

When he tracks her down, he holds her bag hostage in exchange for a date. Their night begins with margaritas and ends in urgent care, and Russ proves that Cosmo's theory about a very particular type of orgasm was oh-so-wrong.

In Penny, Russ finds a small-town sweetheart with a very naughty side. For the first time ever, he's thinking about picket fences. Penny finds in Russ a loving, caring man who understands the power of massaging showerheads. But Russ is only in Port Flamingo for a week. They agree it'll be a fling and nothing more. Because really, they can't fall ass-over-teakettle in love just like that.... Can they?

Spoilers relationship and sex safety

A bit of a spoiler below about relationship safety so don’t expand the review if you don’t want to see.

Recently listened to ‘Shimmy Bang Sparkle’ and ‘Do you feel it too?’ by the same author and really enjoyed them, so decided to get this books which is an earlier release. Wish I didn’t! I have so many problems with this story. First of all, Do you feel it too? is a much better version of this story, down to the quirky pets, instalove, relationship set up, and more - so if you want to give this author a go, choose the other books I mentioned instead. The parrot humour made me laugh a lot in Do you feel it too? but the dog humour wasn’t half as good in this.

A major issue I had was that I didn’t like the hero or the heroine ..pretty major issue.

The hero is very pressurising and gets the heroine to do things she wouldn’t normally do, and put her at risk. That isn’t being masculine and caveman - that’s being domineering, not sexy dominant.

Safe sex?! Really. Why on earth would an author try to romanticise unsafe sex with a complete stranger? The heroine talks about making bad decisions in her thirties with relationships and I can see the trend hasn’t changed. Pressurising someone to ditch condoms in the heat of the moment the first time you have sex, when you don’t know each other at all, and to NOT EVEN MENTION contraception is utterly foolish. At least confirm they’re on the pill or something. Expecting her to trust you when you say you’re clean, you’ve known each other for a matter of hours, but you are also saying you’re not sticking around and just want no strings - how daft is she to not use a condom when he may be doing that everywhere he goes? And CONTRACEPTION!! You can’t get pregnancies to happen or not happen through sheer will alone. Other issues with unrealistic timing too but don’t want to give more spoilers.

It is more than possible to include safe sex conversations in books without it ruining the sexy moment.

4.5 Hilarious Hot & Sexy Stars!

Ms Rendell captured me with this funny, sweet, and sexy story from the very first start and never let go. Russ and Penny have a chance meeting at the airport and have instant attraction. When Penny walks away, Russ will do whatever it takes to find her and convince her to give him a chance. They face so many hilarious challenges that try to keep them apart but they can't stay away from each other. They are both from very different worlds, with Russ being a loner from Boston and Penny from a small town surrounded by lots of family and quirky residents. When they begin their passionate, one week affair, they never expected it to be life changing. But Russ is visiting Port Flamingo for a reason and when secrets are revealed and things change, will he be able to convince Penny they are forever? I fell in love with Penny, Russ, Penny's dog, Guppy and all of Port Flamingo. Ms Rendell created an intriguing world that captured my imagination and my heart. I want to live there with all the quirky, nosey, supportive friends and family.

Tyler Donne and Summer Roberts did an amazing job bringing this quirky story to life. They added so much humor and emotion to this story, making it a true delight to listen to.

If you are looking for a funny, sweet, and sexy romance, you will absolutely love this story!

Unexpected Delight!

This was my first Nicola Rendell read/listen and i was so pleasantly surprised by this story! This book is RomCom meets kinky, sweet & dirty, cute & erotic. Both main characters, Russ & Penny are easy to love and the supporting cast (a small town full of flamingo-loving, quirky Floridians including a yogi best friend who does daily happy hour yoga and an enormous, grumpy horse/dog named Guppy) add so much color to this adorable story.

But don’t let all this cuteness fool you - this story is HOT! The sex is off the charts at times and sweet at others. Penny & Russ’s explosive chemistry is so well-written. Russ is a dirty-talking, dominant, alpha male with a super sweet and caring bent that made me swoon.

Why the 4 stars on the narrators? These two narrators are both talented but there was something lacking in their reading of the steamy bits. The narration just doesn’t match the intense, earth-shattering words and actions written on the page. By no means do they ruin the story, they just fall flat at times.

Male Narrator's Voice Not Sexy Enough For Me

I don't know how the story is as I couldn't get past first chapter - I am picky and I just couldn't get into the male lead because the narrators voice was not sexy. He reads well but couldn't picture a hot, sexy, hunk therefore, can't finish - I"ll try buying the book though.

Really liked it - funny and sweet

I love the writing style. The story is interesting. The characters are well-written and feel like real people. There is great humour throughout, especially if you like dogs. Really liked the voice acting.

Meh

Overall it is a good book. I like that they use 2 narrators (male & female). The plot is good. And the writing is steamy. I really do NOT like that the author feels the need to use God’s name as a curse word. This will cause me not to buy more of her books unfortunately

Why?

Why sex had to be centered of a good story? This one was just that. It’s too bad that romance writers centered sex as the main story line. As always, the heroine succumb to the hero so easily. Oh yeah, because he’s a hunk?! So sad that romance authors create weak and dumb heroine.

Cute story, but lots of implausible details

Book has rough start for me.. right out of the gate with the insta lust and the actual story seems to take awhile to come together after that. There are several cute/genuine laugh out loud moments sprinkled into the story. Story is overall fun, but a bit scattered. However, towards the very end... something happens that is just not realistic. They were only together 1 week! She would not have been nauseous/vomiting yet on literally the day he leaves, maybe a couple weeks down the road but not on the 7th or 8th day after 1st having sex. Doubt a test would even be positive, but in this world apparently it is. And then backtracking to their first night and not using protection...I know it was never directly said that she was on the pill or other form, but it just makes her incredibly stupid and also him for assuming she was. And then the almost love proclamation during anal...insert eye roll... I pushed passed a lot of the stupid stuff but COME ON. Narrators were good for their own characters but I did not enjoy their opposite gender voices for each other. I listened to this through AE.

3.5 stars

While the narrators were both pretty good, the story fell flat at times for me. Overall it was pretty good but not one I will listen to again.
