great story
I love Valdemar books this is a comfort Inn old friend of the world. history tells of the founding of valdermar the performances. great! the story is interesting.

Slow and plodding
Book 1 really excited me, drew me in and made me want to listen continuously. Book 2 was slow and plodding, even when there was "action" it dragged for me. There was way too much character introspection from Baron Valdemar, and it jarred because the internal monologue often came in the middle of conversation. That's doable in a printed work where paragraph breaks or italics might be used to distinguish, but in an audiobook the narration has to be absolutely clear and in this case it wasn't, I didn't think that the narrator had a good enough range to clearly separate speech, narration and internal monologue. So for me it just didn't work well in audio format. My other problem was that there was way too much whiny Delia in the book, moaning over her unrequited love, repeatedly, or just generally moaning
