About this listen

Oz Blackstone, enormously wealthy screen hero and sleuth, dies of a ruptured aorta. Her mind still filled with thoughts of her dead ex-husband, Primavera Blackstone is in Spain with their son Tom when their peace is breached again with the arrival of her formidable aunt, Adrienne McGowan, whose son, Frank, has disappeared.

Prim flies to Seville to track him down, only to find her life under threat, as her aunt goes missing. As she and her companion cross Spain in an effort to free Adrienne, Prim finds herself at the centre of a maelstrom of mystery, until the final solution springs from the unlikeliest of sources.

The Blackstone legacy is in good hands, but will they, and it, survive?

I tend to go for authors I know, but thanks to Audible's recent offer of reduced price thrillers and crime novels I tried this author whose work is new to me. I'll certainly be looking out for more by Quintin Jardine as I've just enjoyed 9 hours of an engrossing roller-coaster of a story with lots of twists and turns worthy of Robert Goddard at his best. Mr Jardine's style of writing suits being an audio recording as there's lots of dialogue. He has been well-served by Hilary Neville who narrates the story with verve, pronouncing the Scottish words as a native and, to my ears, convincingly got her tongue around a plethora of Spanish words and place-names. Most of the action takes place in Spain and I could feel the atmosphere of the country as I listened. Though a crime/thriller the author also spikes his lively-style of writing with flashes of humour. Thoroughly recommended.

An real roller-coaster of a novel
