About this listen

Ridley Scott's 1992 "Director's Cut" confirmed the international film cognoscenti's judgment: Blade Runner, based on Philip K. Dick's science fiction masterpiece Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, is the most visually dense, thematically challenging, and influential science fiction film ever made.

In this intensive, intimate, and anything-but-glamorous behind-the-scenes account, film insider and cinephile Paul M. Sammon explores how Ridley Scott used his creative genius to transform the work of science fiction's most uncompromising author into a critical sensation, a commercial success, and a cult classic that would reinvent the genre.

This edition of Future Noir includes:

- An overview of Blade Runner's impact on movie making and its acknowledged significance in popular culture since the book's original publication

- An exploration of the history of Blade Runner: The Final Cut

- An up-close look at its long-awaited sequel Blade Runner 2049

A fascinating look at the ever-shifting interface between commerce and art, Future Noir provides an eye-opening and enduring look at modern movie making, the business of Hollywood, and one of the greatest films of all time.

Goes into such minute detail without ever becoming dull. Good performance by the reader too, who has friendly tone.
Gave one of my favourite movies a whole new appeal.

Great, at least for needs like me.

This 3rd Edition narrated with aplomb was magnificent as it’s been years since I read the first and second editions - great stuff for the BR tears in rain aficionados - we’ll worth your time, even if you only have a four year life span…..

Superb

I own both the print and audiobook editions, and they’re packed with fascinating insights about the movie and the broader context of its creation. They include plenty of details I hadn’t noticed before, making them a fantastic resource for fans of the film. I especially enjoyed the audiobook, where the narrator’s performance of Rutger Hauer’s quotes stood out. Hauer, a Dutchman who famously shed his Dutch accent for a flawless North American one in real life, is amusingly voiced in the audiobook with an accent reminiscent of Albert Einstein – it’s hilariously unexpected!

An excellent resource for any BR fan

Great detail, very rich detail in fact. A must for all Blade runner fans. The narration was fine, but some of the acents were a little off to the point I lost who was who.

Have a better one

The content and information in the book is as comprehensive as any Blade Runner fan could ask for. Well written and decently read by Todd. Thoroughly recommended for any in depth fan of the film.
