Summary
Death is a roller coaster.
The traveling carnival has made its stop in Sinful and everyone is ready for thrilling rides, challenging games, and most importantly, funnel cake. But when a man is murdered in the funhouse and Emmaline LeBlanc is knocked unconscious so the killer can escape, the good times are over. Carter is beside himself wanting to hunt down the man responsible for putting his mother in the hospital, but he can’t investigate when he’s related to one of the victims.
Palmer Reed was well known as a boy by most everyone in Sinful for being a sneak, a liar, and sometimes a thief. As an adult, he continued his reign of underachieving and mostly making people angry wherever he went. Now he’s a state police detective and is assigned to the case, but Fortune knows that to get Carter the answers he needs, Swamp Team 3 has to take on the investigation. As they dig deep into the confusion and lies that surround the murder, they uncover a secret that could devastate Carter and Emmaline, but Fortune is determined to discover the truth...whatever that may be.

This is yet again a great mystery with hilarious antics my Gertey, I dare you not to lough out loud to this book. Read again by the brilliant voice of Cassandra Campbell.

turn-off
I enjoyed this series until now, but the prejudice with which the protagonists think of a potentially unacknowledged son - before they know anything about him - turned me off. Having lost sympathy for Fortune and her friends I struggled to listen to the rest of the book and will not be downloading any more.

Certainly FUN
I love Jana DeLeon books and I think it is physically impossible for her write a bad one, it certainly seems that way with this series. This is because she has developed such great, entertaining and fun characters. It also set in the kind of town where anything can happen and usually does. This makes it a must read or listen. This is book 19 and the series (thank goodness) shows no sign of slowing down and she is still able to surprise her fans. This time around it is fans of Carter and his mother and the author unquestionable takes you (and the characters) on a roller coast full of twists and surprises. The mystery was interesting and full of adventure and humour. I wish there was more authors out there who can combine humour and mystery like this author can. On to the next book.
Fortune just wants to get her fill of funnel cake when a traveling carnival pulls up in town, instead when her boyfriend's mother is found unconscious next to a dead body, she finds herself neck deep in another investigation. With Carter sat by his mother's bedside and not allowed to investigate it is up to Fortune, Ida Bell and Gertie to get to the bottom of the death but was Emmaline in the wrong place at the wrong time or was she the target? Things get more complicated the more they learn and with Emmaline having no memory of what happened it's no funhouse.
I love the choice for narrator for this series. I really hope as long as the author keeps writing she will continue to be the narrator, as I can't imagine anybody else doing it justice.

Another great book in the Fortune series
I love that the 3 main characters have fun and get up to all sorts of antics that make me laugh. The characters are growing all the time and moving on with each case. This one had me guessing til the end but I did pick up on a few things. I highly recommend this series.
