About this listen

Some truths are dangerous, certain secrets best concealed, and one story never should have been written at all.

Being an unwanted twin in the Imperial line of succession, Farilane became a scholar, adventurer, and in a time when reading was once more forbidden—a book hunter. Her singular obsession is finding the mythical Book of Brin, a tome not just lost but intentionally buried. Respected and beloved by the Teshlor Knights, not even their legendary skills can protect her for what she finds is more dangerous than what she sought.

From the three-time New York Times best-selling author Michael J. Sullivan, Farilane is the second novel in the Rise and Fall trilogy. This latest set of stories sits snugly between Legends of the First Empire and the Riyria books (Revelations and Chronicles). With this tale, Michael continues his tradition of unlikely heroes who must rise to the call when history knocks, demanding to be let in. This series will conclude in the summer of 2023 with the release of Esrahaddon, the final piece in a narrative that began in 2008 and contains 19 full-length novels spread across four series.

Threads across the history, backward and forward, are emerging here. Some earlier actions make more sense, some future situations are clearer. I think I will reread everything in chronological order next autumn.

Wow! Powerful stuff

Like everything I’ve ever listened to, by Michael J. Sullivan, I really enjoyed Farilane. Creat plot twists, that keep the story flowing forward, but keep it taking unexpected turns.

Wow, I'm not crying. You're crying. God damn you, Kyle and Michael J Sullivan, why....😢 That was absolutely incredible, Farilane is the second book in The Rise and Fall series, I truly love Royce Melborn and Hadrian Blackwater, but this was my favourite of the books set in the world of Elan by Michael J.Sullivan and he just broke my heart, I don't think I'll ever get over it. Farilane is set one thousand years after the events in Nolyn, the first book where you see the history and events that are leading and brought us to the Riyria Revelations. It is fantastic when you see it all come together, fun and unexpected with every turn of the page. Michael J. Sullivan continues his brilliance with his amazing writing and wonderful characters. Farilane is an amazing character. She is witty, intelligent, adventurous, honourable, and very funny. She may be up there with Mara, Ruling lady of the Acoma, Raymond Feist and Janny Wurts Empire series. In Farilane, reading and magic have been banned from the Empire for a millennium, but Princess Farilane is a troublemaker, a noted scholar of her age who is searching for the secrets to the founding of the First Empire. It takes her on an adventure after being manipulated into searching for the Horn of Gylindora by an old foe. But if found, it may lead to the great war again, end of the Empire and human civilization. The narration by Tim Gerald Reynolds is brilliant. Truly amazing storytelling and for all you fantasy and Riyria fans, this is a must-read. You better have a box of tissues on stand-by, very highly recommended....😁😢💙

Incredible storytelling.
