About this listen

This program contains original music. The title track, "Evil in Me," is performed by The Maxines and written by Brom and AJ Grey of The Maxines.

"Rockers who love horror (or horror fans who love rock and roll) should give this tale a listen”—Library Journal

Evil in Me is bestselling author Brom's newest novel of possession, damnation, and rock 'n' roll, where one woman must get the world singing in order to save her soul.

Aspiring musician Ruby Tucker has had enough of her small rural town and dysfunctional family. But a falling out with her best friend and bandmate has killed her dreams of escaping and making it big in the Atlanta punk scene.

While helping her eccentric neighbor organize his religious artifacts, an ancient ring clamps down on her finger—possessing her with the spirit of a blood-thirsty demon. There’s no exorcizing it unless hundreds of people chant a spell to set Ruby free. And what’s worse, the ring is a beacon for evil, drawing an unimaginably wicked mob straight to Ruby, hungry for her flesh.

If Ruby can get her band back together, she has a shot at salvation. It's time for her to face the music and put her whole soul into a song—one powerful enough to raise some Hell.

A Macmillan Audio production from Tor Nightfire.

Brom's Evil In Me is a wickedly entertaining ride that blends the raw, rebellious energy of the early punk scene with dark, supernatural flair. The novel’s aesthetic—gritty, defiant, and dripping with attitude—perfectly captures the spirit of punk rock, influencing its characters with a fierce drive to break free from their small-town shackles. The music isn’t just a backdrop; it’s a lifeline, pulsing through Ruby Tucker and her crew as they navigate a world turned upside down by a cursed ring. Brom weaves in daemonic Jewish word magic with a masterful touch, infusing the story with an eerie mysticism that elevates it beyond typical possession tales—think ancient spells clashing with power chords. The prose is sharp and vivid, striking a balance between visceral horror and dark humor that keeps you hooked from start to finish. It’s a wild, soul-shredding jam that leaves you buzzing long after the last page.

I love Brom! I have read/ listened to most of his books now then once- But I found this very disappointing and not up to his usual otherworldly dark fun - I feel like it may have been for a teenage ordeance? which I am not- I found the band/song stuff an ill fit- there were good bits but not enough..

disappointing
