About this listen
I was just a boy when the monsters rose on earth, forcing humans to flee to the coastlines and live in cramped, dirty, military-controlled cities. I enlisted as soon as I could to escape.
Now, I’ve been in the military for twelve years and have the scars—and missing body parts—to prove it. As a hardened soldier who’s spent his fair share of time out in the Wastes—the dangerous place where monsters roam free—I didn’t think anything could surprise me anymore.
But then circumstance forced me together with a big, annoying purple monster who’s arrogant and bossy and pushes all my buttons in the worst—and best—ways. I need his help, and I hate needing anyone’s help. But the more time I spend with him, the more I realise that maybe there’s more from him that I need... and that he might need things from me too.
But I’m still a soldier. I still have responsibilities. It doesn’t matter how I feel about Edin, because we can’t be together. It’s too dangerous. That doesn’t stop me wanting him, though.
Edin is book two of the Monstrous series, a post-apocalyptic m/m fantasy series that focuses on monsters and human men falling in love. The story contains explicit content, including graphic depictions of torture and violence, and mentions PTSD.

This story follows Edin (monster) & Hunter (human). Hunter is on his way back from a mission with the military with his best friend Charlie when they are ambushed by some monsters, Charlie is captured and taken while Hunter finds himself in a life threatening position he can't get out of without help. Enter Edin our jovial, cocky, kind, selfless, loveable, flirty purple behemoth who rescues Hunter and insists on helping him get Charlie back. Hunter is reluctant to accept help, he is closed off emotionally and struggles with talking openly about worries/fears/emotions of any kind, he is impatient and has a bit of an act now think later attitude which makes him reckless & impatient but he is loyal to a fault to those he cares about and even when he was being a bit of grump you can't help but love him.
Hunter has a scar on his face & a prosthetic leg that he is very self conscious of and when the relationship between him & Edin starts to develop he struggles when Edin touches them in any way, and because Edin is such an affection slut and loves to nuzzle/cuddle it somewhat forces Hunter to slowly accept those parts of himself. The way Edin would wrap his tail around Hunter just to hold his leg and how he constantly referred to him as "Josdo" which meant Morsal made me melt every damn time! I loved that we got to see and spend some time with Danny & Wyn from book 1 in this book. It was great seeing their characters again and their appearance didn't take away from this books story at all, it helped drive the plot forward and gave Hunter a way of becoming more open minded towards Monsters in general and to change his views on military life. The overall plot was engaging and kept my attention throughout & the spice was as good as it was in book 1. Michael Lesley did another stellar job with his narration, he is such a talented performer and so good at giving distinct voices to each character. I truly loved this. Bring on book 3. 🌶🌶🌶🌶
Loved it!

l’m pretty glad I kept going. While Edin wasn’t my favourite (I’ve gone on to read other books from this series), I really enjoyed Edin and Hunter’s story.
This book has really helped me look back on soul eater and see it in a different light.
I love the world building, I really like a dystopian setting and this is close enough to our current reality that it doesn’t take too much brain to keep everything straight (unlike fantasy 🤦♀️)
Really like it...
