About this listen

When a strange woman shows up outside our camp in the Wastes with monsters chained up to her RV, it feels like I’m the only one who actually wants to help them.

That big, grey-skinned monster with the cage on his head and the chain hanging from his back—something is telling me I need to help him. I need to free him. But I have absolutely no idea how I’m supposed to do that, especially when he can’t even talk to me to tell me how.

Collector Mary is finally leaving our camp to head back to her monster menagerie, so I do the only thing I can think of to help him: I go with her.

Now, this big beastie and I are traveling companions for the foreseeable future. I just have to think of a way to get that cage off his head, which seems like an impossible task. But I’m not giving up. He has no one else, and when I start to discover who he is beneath the cage, my motivation to free him becomes far more than just a desire to help.

This is so dangerous. The military is lurking. Vicious monsters are lurking. And when Mary turns out to be even worse than we could have ever imagined, my desperate bid to save this monster turns into a deadly game of cat and mouse.

I’m pretty sure I’m going to die out here.

Gloam is book four of the Monstrous series, a post-apocalyptic m/m fantasy series that features monsters and human men falling in love. It is best to listen to the series in order. Contains mature content.

Enjoyable Story that is well written with likeable characters and good world building. The narration is very good as well.

Enjoyable Story

When I first read this book last year I was so stressed the whole time! But I really enjoyed listening to it again on audio! Getting to hear Gloam’s voice is just so so amazing! At this point in the series all the plot threads are coming together and it’s super exciting getting to experience it all again on audio. Rig & Gloam are so underrated as a couple in the monstrous series but they are top tier for sure!

Even better on audio!

Lily mayne, you are an amazing writer. Thank you so much for putting these characters on paper for us all to share with you ❤️ and then we get them on audible. omg amazing

Michael Lesley strikes again with this audio adaptation of Gloam by Lily Mayne. I absolutely flew through this in print and was so excited to hear it brought to life in audio and it did not miss!
The story is great and the voice actor really did everything right to make it so much better to listen to. Can't wait for the next installment, Moth!

So easy to listen to

To say I loved this book, this pairing, this adventure would be a massive understatement!

Once again, I must give all props to Michael Leslie. His narration skill are extraordinary. Also, that he used a voice that sounded very similar to Sean Connery's was pure genius. Sean Connery had that sexy, suave, soothing voice that you can't help but love.

The lead-up to the romantic aspects were beautifully & realistically portrayed.

It was a slow build-up, but it was done in such a clever way, that it was both sweet, tender & it just felt like a natural progression.

The sexy bits were scorching HOT 🔥 🥵

There were quite a few harrowing bits that they both had to suffer through, but it never felt gratuitous, it just flowed well with the story being told.

This book tore my heart open when it becomes clear what happened to Gloam... it was heartbreaking!

One of my favourite parts of this book, was that we see Rig's gradual growth & him coming into his own as the story progressed. He wasn't the same man who left the camp, but he always retained his optimistic outlook throughout!

One of the reasons why I wasn't that much of a fan of the 3rd book, the Rycke with Aury & Gage/Ghost, was that there was no real growth to Gage's character, except for a very display that he was finally growing a backbone.

Adam was relentless & never wavered in his quest to try to help Gloam & the other beasties. He had a heart of pure gold.

I loved how they were able to overcome their initial inability to communicate & that Gloam had at long last found some companionship. It was a very lonely, desolate & tortured life he led until he met Adam.

Gloam & Aury as BFFs is the cherry on top. Adam & Gage are like brothers, so their partners being so close is just 👩‍🍳🤌💋

Now onto Moth's story & I'm pretty sure I know what his secret is & maybe even why he abandoned Ghost on their scouting mission... he deserves some happiness & so does Charlie 😁

Rig & Gloam 😍
