Summary

Deep below a desolate Utah mountain lies the largest platinum deposit ever discovered. A billion-dollar find, it waits for any company that can drill a world's record, three-mile-deep mine shaft. EarthCore is the company with the technology, the resources, and the guts to go after the mother lode. Young executive Connell Kirkland is the company's driving force, pushing himself and those around him to uncover the massive treasure. But at three miles below the surface, where the rocks are so hot they burn bare skin, something has been waiting for centuries. Waiting...and guarding. Kirkland and EarthCore are about to find out first-hand why this treasure has never been unearthed.

Well worth the wait

Any additional comments?

I've been waiting for this for so long and was worried that I'd overhyped it to myself. But no, not at all! This is one of those stories when I found myself parked in the drive listening to the end of a chapter and wondering whether I could listen to another before stopping for the night. It also made me late for work. Loved the storyline, loved the characters and the ending. Hoping for a sequel.

What did you like most about Earthcore?

Easy flowing story, interesting characters, nice dark sci-fi. Have about 4 hrs left... always enjoy switching on the mp3 and seeing what's around the corner.

Easy listen. Imaginative.

An imaginative journey. Cringily cheesy dialogue in places. Certainly not the best book I've ever read but kept me entertained for 20 hours.

Lovable horror and action novel

I have followed the author for years and Earthcore is one of my favourite books. it contains solid science married with outrageous yet possible innovations PLUS a possibility of other life forms. I love Scott's work and so am very delighted by this book. it is very tasty.

Looked forward to listening every night.

Was catious about buying at first but I am really happy I did. Slow to start but I think that only adds to the later parts of character development.

Nope, Yes, Nope

The Good: The narration by Ray Porter was excellent - male and female voices, ethnic accents, use of non-word cues were all excellent. I'm looking forward to more Ray Porter. The underlying concept of the book was interesting, but was marred by The Bad (below).

The Bad: Everything else. There was not ONE sympathetic character in the entire book. I didn't like, or relate to, ANYONE. Some of the characters were so two-dimensionally evil or obnoxious that it felt like fingers on a chalkboard every time they were on stage. The violence was uncomfortable and endless. The profanity from every character began to feel like middle school boys trying to best each other at being bad ass. Finally, while POSSIBLE, I found it highly IMPROBABLE that at BYU graduate student and her adopted BYU professor father would be foul-mouthed atheists. I attended BYU and never encountered people like these - especially representatives of the school. It seemed like Sigler picked a major university near where he wanted his story to play out, but knows nothing about the school itself. I kept hoping the characters I didn't like from the beginning would somehow redeem themselves, but for me that never happened. I only finished the last few chapters to be able to credibly write this review.

A thrilling ride to the underground.

Great story and narration. Not the hard science novel I was looking for but the pacing of the journey into the earth and cast of characters was interesting enough to get me to the end with a satisfied feeling.

Scott Sigler is amazing

It has been a few years since I read this one and... While I remembered that is was great - I forgot just how amazing it is!

I have listened to all of Scott Sigler's books through the years as he released them free as serialized podcasts and another, free platform as well.
Ray Porter does a great job!
I have been purchasing them through Audible because I enjoy the way they are organized and, mainly, I want to support Scott Sigler - FDO!

Full marks, all around

Absolutely loved this book. Cool premise, great characters, satisfying ending. I was slightly concerned in the beginning because the first half of so of the book doesn't really have any sci fi at all, (and I was reading specifically for sci fi) but despite that the characters are interesting enough to keep me engaged, as well as the surprising horror/thriller bits that are /very/ well written. The narrator is also absolute grade A.

Riveting Non-Stop Action

Dang this book is entertaining. Certainly in the top three I’ve read this year. Though not a literary masterpiece, it is creative and very well written. Characters are all pretty much one dimensional - in the same dimension, but that’s part of Sigler’s style. I think he was going for how many antiheroes he could include in a single book. Porter brings it all to life in a great way that makes it work for the reader. Definitely got my credit’s worth from this book.

wow! such a great performance!

Great book. Hands down, one of the best modern day scifi thrillers I've read.

Ray Porter portrays each character wonderfully.

Do yourself a favor and read this epic story.

incredible book! had to I buy the physical book.

The development of the story us really well done! at times it's mysterious. At others it's a perfect mixture of slightly creepy and dark, and mysterious. this is my favorite stand-alone book of the year. I am excited for the sequel. The story is just so, so good. I'm big on spoilers so I am being intentionally vague. but the beginning setup hooks you, then the dropping of additional pieces of the story keep reeling you in. The explanation for the events is very satisfying and it is in a very explainable way. I'm blown away by this book. loved it!!

Not my usual genre but...

I decided to step out of my usual genre with this book based on all of the great reviews. I was not disappointed. This author kept me guessing until the end, will they survive or won’t they??? The story was pretty entertaining, character development on point, and the descriptions made for easy visuals. I’m thinking I might try another one of Sigler’s books. The narration was pretty outstanding as well. The narrator had a different voice for each character and acted out the scenes with the readings. All around a pretty entertaining audible.
