Born with a secret power he must hide....

Telryn "Trip" Yert has always been a little odd, with hunches that are too accurate to explain. Magic is feared and forbidden in Iskandia, so he's struggled his whole life to hide his eccentricities. As a boy, he was forced to watch his mother's execution. Her crime? Witchcraft.

Understandably, Trip wants nothing to do with the power that lurks within him, always threatening to reveal itself. Instead, he dedicates himself to serving as an officer in the king's army, to battling pirates and imperial conquerors. He longs to become a soldier as respected and renowned as the legendary General Zirkander.

But his country is in need of more than a soldier.

After disappearing for over 1,000 years, dragons have returned to the world. A few of them are willing to be allies to mankind, as they were millennia before, but far more want to destroy or enslave humans and claim the world for themselves.

There are few people left with the power to fight dragons. For reasons he doesn't understand, Trip may be one of those people. But if he chooses to learn more about his heritage and the power he can wield, he risks losing everyone he loves and everything he longs to be.

I must admit that I was a bit sceptical about a sequel series to the dragon blood series but once I got into listening to the first chapter I found I was enjoying it. Yes I missed the interaction between the original main characters but it wasn’t necessary to have all of them around. The narrator was pleasant and not over the top or monotonous like some books I’ve heard before and I would recommend this set to anyone who likes the original dragon blood series

As good a sequel as the original set

an exciting start to the Heritage of Power, blending fast-paced adventure, engaging magic, and plenty of dragon-filled action into a thoroughly entertaining fantasy.

The pacing is consistently strong, introducing the world and its magical history without slowing the momentum. Buroker strikes an enjoyable balance between action, mystery, and character development, steadily expanding the world while leaving enough unanswered questions to make diving into the next instalment an easy decision. Fans of classic fantasy adventures with a modern, character-driven approach will feel right at home.

The cast is immediately likeable, with protagonists who feel capable without being invincible and whose personalities make the journey as enjoyable as the destination. Their evolving relationships, quick wit, and determination keep the story grounded, while the dragons and magical discoveries provide a constant sense of wonder and excitement. It's a world that's easy to become invested in from the very beginning.

Caitlin Davies delivers a good narration, giving each character a distinct personality while maintaining a smooth, engaging pace throughout. She captures both the lighter moments and the more dramatic scenes with confidence, bringing the world and its inhabitants vividly to life without ever overshadowing the story itself.

The combination of Buroker's accessible fantasy storytelling and Davies' engaging narration makes Dragon Storm a fantastic introduction to a series that promises adventure, mystery, and plenty of magical discoveries.
