About this listen

Five classic novelisations of TV adventures featuring the Doctor's arch enemy, the Master!

In Doctor Who and the Doomsday Weapon by Malcolm Hulke, the Master has stolen the Time Lord's files on a weapon which could make him ruler of the Galaxy.

In Doctor Who and the Daemons by Barry Letts, secret ceremonies have been designed to conjure up a horribly powerful being from another planet.

Doctor Who and the Sea-Devils by Malcolm Hulke finds the Master aiding and abetting members of a submarine colony who plan to seize control of the Earth.

In Logopolis by Christopher H Bidmead, even the Master is horrified by the threat of total chaos he unintentionally precipitates, and in Castrovalva by the same author he devises a trap for a newly regenerated Doctor.

Read by Geoffrey Beevers, Barry Letts, Christopher H Bidmead and Peter Davison, these stories feature the Third, Fourth and Fifth Doctors.

Each purchase is accompanied by a PDF booklet featuring full cast and credits, chapter-by-chapter navigation, and sleeve notes for each book by David J. Howe.

Doctor Who: The Master Collection Review

the Doomsday Weapon and The Sea Devils are fantastic... but the Daemons is ruined by really obtrusive music. practically unlistenable.
the readings of Castrovalva and Logopolis are decent but the script is quite dense. if I had the chance I'd just buy the first two on their own and bin the others off.

the music is horrendous at times

It was a great book but I would have liked to see more story's about the master that didn't appear on TV, as it spoils it for when you watch the TV episode. However I did enjoy how the book explores the characters thoughts which is not something you can do in the actual episode. I like how each story has a person who contributed to either a dr who or just the episode they were reading. I especially liked it when Peter Davison read out his first regeneration story as I always enjoy the actors reading out story! However if I was being really picky I would say get people who sounded relatively similar as Christopher H Bidmead has a rather low voice which was hard to get to grips with as the previous story had had a more soft voiced reader. As a final example Christopher H Bidmeads impression of Tigen sounded nothing like Peter davisons. However this is just me being picky and I would definitely recommend this book as it was so close to 5 stars
