About this listen

Can you hear it? Can you hear his song? He is coming…

The quiet northern Swedish town of Kurrajakk is rocked when a popular teenager is found dead, mounted on a sacrificial altar, body covered in strange cuts, a crow shoved down his throat. Rumors begin to swirl. A local ghost story, Krakornås Kung, The King Of Crows, is back.

Jamie left the Violent Crimes department in Stockholm to rebuild her life. Her body. Her mind. To get away from cases like this. But Jamie can’t let injustice go unpunished – and now, she’s all out of compassion. The King may think Kurrjakk is his for the taking, but he’s never met Jamie Johansson.

As strange occurrences begin to plague the town, the residents are whipped into paranoia. Jamie and her new partner must race to unmask the King, but find themselves at the center of a deadly game. The rules are simple – survive. But when your greatest enemy is your own mind, winning isn’t so easy....

Death Chorus is the fourth novel in the DI Jamie Johansson series, and the chilling follow-up to Old Blood.

A real fan of this series. This one seems rather more complex than the other ones in terms of the characters which can make following everything on an audiobook a bit tricky. Still very good though!

Very good overall

After her exertions in bringing to light the corruption led by the Imperium Group Jamie takes a new post in the sleepy town of Kurrajakk, in an attempt to get a break for the life threatening stress of her previous cases. Of course things don't quite work out like that and before long she is thrust into the middle of her most desperate case yet. A popular teenager is found dead on a old altar in the woods with a crow stuffed down his throat. The town becomes unsettled believing that a local ghost story, Krakornås Kung, The King Of Crows, is back. Forced to work with a new partner (Thorsen) she struggles to understand what is behind the crime. Things go from bad to worse, a prisoner is broken out of their cells, partially destroying the police station in the process, the town gets hyped up almost to the point of rioting and it's not clear why. As the case goes on both Jamie and Thorsen find themselves dosed with powerful psychedelics, making working on the case difficult.
Can they put aside their initial dislike of each other, overcome the effects of the drugs and find the solution before more people die and the town gets completely out of control?
This is a dark crime thriller with elements of 'supernatural' in the manner of the Hounds of the Baskervilles that adds an extra layer of creepiness to story. Definitely not one for the fainthearted.

Dark and Creepy Murder Story.
