Summary

Beware the quiet wolf. He's the one you don't see coming...

All is quiet in Kurrjakk when Jamie gets a call from an old friend. A family has seemingly vanished in the mountains near the border to the north, and the local polis have turned up nothing.

When Jamie and Thorsen arrive in the quiet border town of Etterange, it doesn't take long for them to realise something isn't right. An inept twenty-six-year-old is running the polis station, there's been a spate of unreported missing persons, and there are rumblings of a strange community living out on the lake, shut off from the rest of the world.

When Jamie and Thorsen discover a crash site on the road, they converge on a place known only as The Farm, hoping to find the missing Boehman family safe and sound.

But with winter closing in, the nights freezing, the landscape untamed and the animals that stalk it just as wild, Jamie and Thorsen will need to stick together if they hope to exhume the truth. But will that truth be enough? What secrets are hidden at the Farm? Where are the Boehmans? And is it already too late… to save them, to call for help, to get out alive?

A pity really, because some of the stories are a bit on the grim side and the detail is … err … a little too detailed! The other slightly irritating aspect is where movements are described in monotonous precision, and there seems to be unnecessary padding out.

For instance, instead of ‘getting in the car and driving away at high speed’, we are subjected to the key coming out of the pocket, the door handle touched, pulled, let go as the door opens, then closed the key going in the ignition, turned, engine comes on, steering wheels turned, clutch depressed, foot on the gas, and so on. Such detail would be fine if there was any particular significance to any of these minute actions but there very rarely is and some sequences are like reading (listening to) an instruction manual, perhaps for driving, self-defence or attack!

Yet, it still remains compulsive listening as I allow myself to be led from one pointless description to the next with intervening nerve jangling action. Hence my description of being addicted to Sofia’s voice and Jamie’s misadventures.

Resistance is futile! I’m hooked. Where’s the next one?

I’m addicted to Jamie and Sofia Engstrand!

Each story gets better and better and the descriptions of the scenery and characters almost makes you feel if you are actually there

Another roller coaster, of just made it but then plunging back in to unimaginable situations that all follow the twisting of the plot. Incredible narration yet again. Put this on the screen for us.
