Summary

A girl’s body is found in a dustbin. 'Dead Meat' is written on a note found with her.

The girl was part of a group of bullies from the local school. But DI Calladine recognises the MO of Craig Donnelly, a killer he thought he’d put away forever. And coincidentally Donnelly has just been released from prison. But when Detective Calladine charges in, he finds out that Donnelly has a watertight alibi and is under the protection of the local vicar, who thinks Donnelly is a changed man.

When another girl goes missing from the same group of friends, Calladine must look elsewhere for the killer and comes across a sinister online predator who was in touch with all the girls. DS Ruth Bayliss is back from maternity leave, but even her skills and common sense can’t crack the case.

In a race against time, they must stop the killer, someone who may even be close to home, before he continues his vicious killing spree.

Short but action packed

Calladine and Bayliss are back. Ruth has returned from maternity leave and they are soon thrown into another nasty murder investigation.

Despite being fairly short (and sometimes I really like a short read) these books pack a lot in and are well written and expertyly plotted.

Kudos to Jonathan Keeble for his excellent narration.

Dead Nasty

After my disappointment with the last book I was hoping this book would be better and it was.......but it was so predictable. I smelt the bad egg easily and the ending was a bit sudden. I did like the narrative between Tom and Ruth as they continue to be 'fleshed out' by the author.

I would say the descriptions of the murders may upset some people as they are quite graphic but I personally have heard worse. As usually the narration was spot on.

I've been listening to these one after the other but I will wait a wee while till I read the next one.

Getting better

I was suspicious after the last 2 books, but decided to give it a chance, glad I did it.

Good listen

I’m increasingly irritated by Caladine’s character - but that is probably the point! A strong series.

Good not great

In my opinion this is the weakest of the bunch, still good by any measure but a bit of a letdown after the previous 5. JK however does his usual brilliant performance

Great mystery and awesome narration..

I gotta tell ya’, I didn’t like Tom Calladine at all in this book. He was such an ass about Craig Donnelly. Even if he was right, he was obnoxious and hateful all the time. And since I listened to it I can tell you he has very loud, too. He was right but he didn’t have to be the way he was portrayed.

And, OMG! I hate that a main, likable character was killed. I’m tempted to NOT read any more of this author’s books. Jeez, that really sucked.

Anyway, this was about the murder of two schoolgirls and the kidnapping of a third, as well as a grown escort. And the murders were pretty gruesome, too.

Calladine is with a different woman again, so he’s still a man-whore. I don’t like that about him.

No sex and the F-bomb was used 2 times..

As to the narration: Jonathan Keeblebis a wonderful narrator. His emotions are incredible.

Great!

I could listen to at least 20 more books in this series! Ms. Durrant, please keep writing. Great narrator as well.
