About this listen

Looking for a brilliant best-selling crime mystery with great detectives?

Detectives Calladine and Bayliss face a vicious serial killer in a mystery with a shocking ending.

A woman’s body is found in a disused church, a homemade stuffed toy by her side. The victim had been dumped there months ago. The crime has the hallmarks of 20-year-old case whose alleged perpetrator is in prison.

Detective Ruth Bayliss must work out whether a serial killer has returned, or if a new killer is just taunting the police.

Her partner DI Tom Calladine faces the fight of his life to clear his name of corruption accusations. And then things go from bad to worse for Calladine....

With the team under massive pressure and drugs flooding the streets, another gruesomely presented body is found.

In an ending with a huge twist, the detectives must unpick decades’ old lies before anyone else dies.

If you like Angela Marsons, Rachel Abbott, Mel Sherratt, Ruth Rendell or Mark Billingham, you will enjoy this exciting new crime fiction writer.

In the end but at least you can always rely on the trusted duo. Problems sorted in the end but as always they’ll grow back ten fold. Keeps them busy and no shortage of crimes expected any time soon. So onwards to the next one to keep the suspense going.

Not sure who got away with what

Perfect story to do the ironing to. A story with plenty of twists and turns right to the end. Plus all the intrigue of the familiar characters.

Loved it

Excellent narration, the story is fine and more importantly, the voice, accent and engagement of the narrator are excellent. Jonathan Keeble is one of the greatest narrators I have come across. Looking forward to more of his narrative books.

Amazing narrator

These are not the longest audiobooks in the world - they are all just under 6 hours long - but there's a lot packed in to them. Sometimes I just want a book I can finish in a day and these always fit the bill.

In this one the team have the horrific murder of a young woman left in a disused church which seems very similar to a crime which happened twenty years ago when Calladine was a sergeant. Then Calladine disappears (kidnapped) and is suspected of corruption! And there's a new, dangerous drug doing the rounds.

There's never a dull moment in this book, which is fast moving and well written and had me right on the edge of my seat! Calladine and Bayliss are such great characters, and I feel I have come to know them well throughout this series. I love their banter. There's no hint of romance between them (which I am pleased about) but they're like a brother and sister, who often bicker but still love each other.

Dead Bad is a great addition to the series, and this Audible version is brought to life by the wonderful Jonathan Keeble.

Another great addition to the series

Another great story from Durant but a great deal of the action happened in the last half hour of the book, there could have been another two hours of story if things that were rushed through had been included in the story properly. What was the rush? Disappointing. Had she told the whole story in this manner it could have been over in an hour, but what would be the point of that.

Rushed ending
