About this listen

From bestselling LitRPG author Seth Ring—creator of the Titan and Battle Mage Farmer series—comes Dark Dawn, the second book in an epic new series of alien contact, fast-paced military action, and thrilling adventure.

Mark Fields has achieved his dreams—once a dishwasher, he’s now one of the empowered, with superhuman abilities that just keep building. He’s got friends, a place in the Engineering Corps, and a new mission.

Joining the Black Mountain Battalion, Mark is part of the team heading into the wilderness to recover a lost mine. But the battalion is massively understaffed, the Exlian are voracious and myriad, corruption awaits back in New Emery, and the aliens aren’t even the only enemy out there …

Mark must level up fast if he wants to survive, but greater power is always a double-edged sword.

Titan and Farmer were enjoyable, but this years releases are a step up in enjoyability. great fantasy adventure stories, great narrator also. Feathers and Exlian, top marks, take my credits.

Stepped it up

Ring’s second round in the Exlian saga is a worth successor to the first, continuing to explore Mark’s abilities, and even adding to them. While there were some significant weaknesses in Act 1, most of these were more than made up for by Act 2, and the rest were faint memories by the end of the book. Push through those chapters, and you’ll thank yourself for it!
The book ends on a fascinating cliffhanger that promises further intrigue. 4.5 Stars

A refreshing change from the repetitive announcement of stats that so many other authors in this genre rely on. Nor are there whole series of chapters that vainly and incoherently try to explain the irrelevant, ie trying to explain the properties of unicorn fatz.
It is a book with a great storyline great characters who are emotionally stable. and not complete basket case as.many other authors do with their characters.
There is enough fantasy to make it interesting without going so far down the road of.making everything a skill, ie being able to lose over a 6 foot wall.
The main character does not spend the whole book beating himself up because he killed a person, creature, being that was actively trying to kill him.
Lastly there is no attempt to bring sex into the storyline LITRPG authors fail miserably when they attempt to do so.

Seth Ring never never disappoints

Incredibly disappointing. There was much potential with the book and series but the character regression am for me made it unenjoyable.

not what I hoped for
