About this listen

The latest and most exciting adventure yet in this brand new Western series from Malcolm Hotzman! Action, adventure, drama and gunplay from one of the finest authors writing Westerns today! Dalton Brisco is hired to find out what happened to two men who disappeared while trying to see if Broken Antler, a ghost town outside of Denver, could be salvaged. When he gets to the town, he finds himself in a situation where his fast gun can’t help him. Brisco has to rely on a young Shoshone brave and spectral visits from the brave’s grandfather, a Shoshone medicine man who has been dead for several years. This odd alliance confronts a demon that in Brisco’s mind cannot be real—or can it?

I’ve enjoyed all the Dalton Brisco, Gunfighter books so far as good old-fashioned Westerns that feel believable, at least to a point. This instalment, however, went a bit too far for my taste. The inclusion of ghostly Indians and subterranean monsters pushed the story well beyond credibility and made it feel somewhat silly compared to earlier stories in the series. That said, it was still a very entertaining listen overall. Malcolm Hotzman certainly knows how to keep the pace moving and the action engaging, even when the plot strays into the supernatural. Henry Marshall’s narration was outstanding once again and brought the story to life, almost. Despite my reservations about the storyline, I hope there will be more Dalton Brisco adventures to come.
I was kindly given a copy of the book by the narrator and leave this honest review.

A Good Listen.
