I was a little thrown when I started this book as it was a world away from previous Empire Corps books. That said, I ended up really enjoying this and it is no bad thing to change the tempo of a long running series.

The Empire is no more. Earth has been destroyed and now everyone across the stars is on their own to survive as they can.

Tarsus, relatively close to Earth, is one such planet. Clarence Esperanza is a reporter on Tarsus, but a reporter who wants to write the truth; not a good idea in the current circumstances. The struggle that ensues makes this a very enjoyable listen.

Another well rounded and thoughtful story showing what happens when the establishment losses all contact and respect from the this should be a mandatory tale that all people in the media and government should be made to read.
