About this listen

I don’t want a wife. I don’t want a prisoner. But she just became both…

Seven years ago, Hadleigh Castille fell into my bed and never left my heart.
Then she disappeared and my hunger for vengeance was born.
My body wasn’t the same after that night.
She left for war, but I lived a daily life of blood and violence for the Irish Mob.

Now, I’ve risen to power in my own right, but to keep my crown I must align with the enemy.
When he presents his sister to me as a bride, my heart takes a tumble.
The woman I knew, the siren I never got over isn’t Hadleigh Castille, Navy Lieutenant.
She’s the missing Greek Princess, Ava Zervas.

Only, she’s not a princess at all.
She’s tough, brash, mouthy, and hates me more than her brother at the moment.
She’s my weakness, but I’m her downfall.

She thinks I’ll let her go in six months.
She doesn’t know the meaning of obsession and desire.
Until now.

What a wild ride! Deborah Garland starts her new series off with a bang and I am along for the ride! It's fantastic. Yes, it's morally gray, but it's a phenomenal story. Ava was sent to the US Navy to be saved from being sold for her father's debts. Here she becomes the fierce killer she is. But one night, she met Griffin, the next head of the Irish mafia and has a one night stand that neither can forget. When it comes time to make a deal with Greek mafia, Ava's brother offers her to Griffin as his new wife. Little did these two know they would ever see each other again. But is it all flowers and chocolate? Garland works in humor, dirty talk, danger, and ways to showcase just how incredible they both are. Spicy and passionate, dark and dangerous, I was all in on this listen and now I can't wait to hear what comes next in the Quinlan Empire.

Lucy Rivers, Joe Arden and Derek Duvall are the story tellers and WOW. The attitude, the danger, the passion, it's all there with each one, bringing the characters alive. Rivers creates the best bada$$ that is Ava/Hadley. Arden is so good as Griffin, dirty talking leader and Duvall pops in with a few cameos letting me know just how good the upcoming books are going to be. I loved their story telling!

Love the start to this series!!!

SPOILER ALERT

I really like the beginning of this story. Love the badass FMC.
But after she met him, it took ages for her to get back to that badass, it was like she was whiny and childish. It was a bit disappointing.
I understand she had trauma from being held hostage, but it felt a bit much for the story.

And another example of the MMC who can f whoever he wants and she’s stayed celibate for years after their first encounter. Would have been better if he stayed celibate too. Typical misogynistic BS.

It also took a while for them to give in to the obsession. I would have preferred it if even in Griffins mind he was obsessed with her and talking more about how much he loves her etc, instead of constantly comparing her to the ghost of who she was 7 years ago.

I loved how they were after they got over their BS though.

Great narration. Loved the audiobook.

Loved the story but some things irked me.

In this first book in the Quinlan Empire Series — an Irish Mafia series — Deborah Garland delivers again with the perfect mix of suspense, spice, and romance. Griffin and Ava’s story is intense, dark, and captivating. Ava is strong, capable, and determined, while Griffin is enigmatic, obsessive, and deeply protective. They complement each other well. The side characters are intriguing, and the pacing is just right, with enough twists to keep things interesting. Lucy Rivers, Joe Arden, and Derek Duvall bring the characters to life with nuance and energy. Definitely worth adding to your list — I’ll be continuing the series for sure!

Intense, Dark, Captivating!

The story was ok, parts of it seemed weak, particularly the believability of the female character who is supposed to be bad ass but she can’t even drive! She also has gone through all of that military training which should mean she would be cool, calm, collected and hatching a plan to get out of the situation she finds herself in and yet she just behaves like a spoilt brat spending lots of money on unwanted things just to wind Griff up. The female performance was very wooden but maybe that because of the dull and conflicting character she had to play. The male performance was very good and the character a bit more believable. The complexities of the family ties to explain why Griff is next in line seems a bit long winded but maybe the author is setting it up for further stories in the series.

A navy seal/cia operative who never learned to drive?????

Narration of this book is perfect. Duet is my preferable choice in narration and Joe and Lucy amazing. Plot was very predictable, nothing suprised me, thus 3⭐️⭐️⭐️ It was enjoyable listen, but I won’t continue with other books in the serie.

Nice mafia story
