About this listen

She’s the wrong bride but he’ll make her the perfect wife.

She was my secret obsession.

My best friend’s younger sister.

But with our families at each other’s throats, I turned my back on the only woman I ever cared about.

And I regretted the loss of her fiery spirit every day of my life.

I learned to live with the pain and emptiness, vowing never to fall in love or marry another.

But Lennox didn’t disappear.

She was right there.

Gorgeous. Successful. Ice cold.

So close. But out of my reach.

Years later our world is very different.

With so many enemies, Irish blood must stay pure.

Putting chains on my wrists, to marry my worst enemy’s daughter.

But not Lennox.

Her sister.

Now Lennox hates me all over again.

But underneath I see profound sadness.

The hidden desire for me she never let go of.

And I’ll drag hell to my doorstep to marry the woman I want.

Lennox was always mine.

I will not let her slip through my fingers again.

These Quinlan men. I can't get enough of them! Shane has always wanted to be with Lennox. His best friend's sister, he knew he couldn't have her. Their families were at odds and she's his best friend's sister! Now years have gone by, and though things are no better, there is a need to keep the Irish blood pure. Marrying his best's friend's other sister was arranged. Now not only are he and Neve unhappy, but he can see what it is doing to Lennox. Now he takes things into his own hands, marriage, but never saying those three words. Everything she ever wanted except his heart, Lennox remains a bit distant, and keeping things from him, while it hurt her, she did what she had to. That is until danger came. What will Shane do now? So many lies, betrayals and wars these two go through. Deborah Garland keeps things fresh with this couple, each scene showing the true passion only love has, but the walls that are in place that keeps them separate. I loved this one as things progressed, but the twists and turns kept coming. This is a wonderful addition to the series and I can't wait for the next one.

Sean Masters and Avery Caris are so good together as they bring this action packed story alive. Masters plays the twisted, broody Shane. Each scene has conflicted feelings and Masters nails them! Caris is Lennox, smart, spunky and loyal to a fault, she finds each part of her personality and vibrantly portrays them. Loved this pairing and the performance.

Love the Irish men!

The second book in Quinlan Empire series and it’s a tale of unrequited love on both sides, think an Irish Romeo and Juliet but without the deaths for Shane Quinlan and Lennox Donnelly who due to their families being enemies could never be together or so Shane thought when he walked away from Lennox. He might’ve regretted his decision over the years as he watched Lennox make a success of her life but then again I don’t remember Romeo proposing to Juliet’s sister but that was the situation Shane now found himself in, about to marry her teenage sister, Neve to keep his Irish bloodlines pure and because his family needed information her family had. They hadn’t reckoned on Neve having her own plans but fixer Shane somehow managed to manipulate the situation so that Lennox ended up taking her sister’s place and finally giving him the bride he’s always wanted but thought he’d never have.

I wanted to lock Shane and Lennox in a room together until they learned to communicate effectively. As it was, they both felt the other prioritised their loyalty to their respective families, which created an opportunity for Lennox' family to drive a wedge between them. Despite their strong feelings for each other, they struggled to see it, especially Lennox even though the notorious mobster went to great lengths to accommodate her cat, even taking antihistamines to alleviate his allergies. The cat, who seemed to think it was Houdini reincarnated, kept escaping, and Shane would rescue it, sneezing all the way. Trust me, as a sufferer, nothing says I love you more than enduring the pain of allergies. Although Savage Promises was relatively low-key in terms of drama and suspense, focusing more on the development of their relationship and Lennox' family issues, the epilogue makes me think that Connor's book will make up for the lack of action in this one.

I loved the book, but with duet narration, Sean Masters and Avery Caris, brought the characters of Lennox and Shane to life. Sean Masters' distinct Irish brogue was impressive, while Avery Caris perfectly captured Lennox's transformation from a teenager with a crush to a mature businesswoman hiding the depth of her heartache from the man she’d always loved. Together, they delivered a flawless production that reinforced why I'm always confident in having an amazing listening experience whenever I see their names attached to an audiobook.

Loved the duet narration

Deborah Garland pens another exciting novel set in her amazing “Quinlan Empire” series, putting her own unique spin on the arranged/forced marriage trope. Garland continues to build this incredible mafia world, the “Quinlan Empire” a spin-off of another of her equally amazing series, the “Astoria Royals”, each a stand-alone featuring different lead characters and their journey. This book is Shane Quinlan and Lennox Donnelly’s story, a story that immediately grabs your attention and holds it captive the entire time. There has always been some bad blood between the Quinlan and the Donnelly family, but that did not stop Shane and Garrett Donnelly from becoming best friends. It also did not stop Garrett’s younger sister, Lennox, from crushing on Shane since she was fifteen, and at one point she thought he felt something for her, but it was not meant to be. Six years later, Lennox is running her father’s bar, making it a successful business, something her brother failed to do. When Garrett gets himself in trouble, he attempts the unthinkable and gets himself in deeper trouble, this time with the Quinlan family and when his father tries to bail him out, he makes a deal with them, a marriage arrangement. Shane is not interested in marriage, and is definitely not interested in the youngest Donnelly, Neve, but there was no choice other than doing what was right for the family. My heart went out to Lennox, for the way her family treated her and for having to endure another heartbreak over Shane. Shane was a smart man, he caught on to Neve’s deal right away and he put his plan in motion to get what he really wanted or rather who. I loved how everything played out in this book with a perfect balance of drama, angst, some twists and thrilling and suspenseful moments, heartfelt emotions, and a slow burn but so worth the wait romance. As always, the writing, plot and world building are exceptional, as are the character growth and development. Deborah Garland, thank you for another fantastic novel and wild ride, thanks for the heartwarming bonus epilogue too.

🎧📚🎧  Avery Caris and Sean Masters were the perfect cast to bring these characters to life, giving each a voice that was fitting. I loved how they owned their roles and how natural they were in each, sounding believable and just as I imagined the characters to sound. Masters plays a killer Shane, grasping every aspect of his personality and demeanor, from a dutiful alpha you do not want to mess with to a possessive, in denial of love, lover. Avery Caris is just as amazing in Lennox’s role, showcasing her personality beautifully, from her fierceness to her insecurities, as well as her determination and dedication. They were fantastic performing the roles of all the side/secondary characters, too. Their tone and pacing were just right for the story and they conveyed each character’s emotions, making you feel them all. These two were a perfect pairing, their voices and talent complemented each other and their captivating performance rivets you to the story. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to.
