Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

Blue Moon is the latest instalment in Lee Child’s internationally popular Jack Reacher series, read by Jeff Harding.

Shortlisted for the Audible Sounds of Crime Award 2020.

As featured on Richard & Judy’s ‘Keep Reading and Carry On’.

Jack Reacher is back in a brand new white-knuckle listen from Lee Child.

It's a random universe, but once in a blue moon things turn out just right.

In a nameless city, two rival criminal gangs are competing for control. But they hadn’t counted on Jack Reacher arriving on their patch.

Reacher is trained to notice things.

He’s on a Greyhound bus, watching an elderly man sleeping in his seat, with a fat envelope of cash hanging out of his pocket. Another passenger is watching too...hoping to get rich quick.

As the mugger makes his move, Reacher steps in.

The old man is grateful, yet he turns down Reacher’s offer to help him home. He’s vulnerable, scared, and clearly in big, big trouble.

What hold could the gangs have on the old guy? Will Reacher be in time to stop bad things happening?

The odds are better with Reacher involved. That's for damn sure.

Best Reacher in ages

Have really enjoyed every Reacher audio book from Killing Floor onwards. This however is absolutely brilliant. Finished it in under 3 days (couple of long car journeys in that...). Just great action, fun, pacing and story with characters you root for. Doesn't pad with too much intimate scenes as he's done in the past. Look forward to hearing this again.

Disappointment

I’ve been a fan of Lee Child since his very first book featuring Reacher. I had hoped that this would be a return to his earlier style? Especially reading some of the reviews.
Couldn’t be bothered to finish listening

Entertaining

Reacher kicks arse as usual. Well read too. Kept me awake and on the edge of my seat into the early hours.

Alright

Overally not blown away, I found the story line dry, I was looking for suspense but it failed to deliver. I somehow foresaw the ending three quarters in the read.

Same same

After reading most of jack reacher stories I find this one by lee child just too much of the same . Unfortunately I though it was find bad guys help someone and shoot everyone .
No one could get away with that ex mp or not .
Please find a new angle as I’ve enjoyed must of the previous books.

Still good but not one of the best

Lee Child has been on a roll of late with some of the best Reacher novels. However, Blue Moon seems a bit tired. Nothing seems to quite gel or hold together convincingly. Apart from Reacher, the other characters seem as underdeveloped as the nameless city in which the story is set. I probably wouldn't start with this one if you are new to the series, but fans will still love it.

Cookie cutter Reacher made worse by laughable audio performance

The Reacher thing is, for me, getting a bit old. It’s formulaic, which is acceptable, but I wonder how much more Lee Child will plough this furrow. It’s hot just too predictable.

That’s not the main problem though - the appalling and unintentionally comedic performance by the narrator makes this audiobook just plain embarrassing. Just check out his attempts at a “female” voice - It’s in unbelievable that someone actually got paid for this and produced it, even more so that it was released. If you want a perfect example of how to do it, check out “The Night Fire” by a Michael Connelly. Nothing detracts from the story - It’s just right.

This book would have been more enjoyable if I wasn’t constantly burying my head in my hands at how the actor apparently thinks a female voice sounds. It could have been done differently and it would have worked. As it is, it’s just laughable.
