About this listen

Before I found a love I was willing to die for, I had to survive one I had to kill for.

Chapel Crest wasn’t a place of solace. It was made for suffering.

I would know.

I’d been locked inside ever since my mother tossed me away like I didn't matter.

In my suffering though, I found her.

Isabella.

The girl who made me believe I mattered.

The girl I gave everything to.

The girl I loved.

The girl I would do anything for, even kill for.

Or just plain kill.

Because you don’t betray a watcher and live to tell about it.

This is the prequel to Chapel Crest and is best heard AFTER book one. It tells the tale of Sin and Isabella through multiple POVs before Sirena. This is a dark tale of greed, deception, and all things that hurt. Please listen to the foreword.

After book one, I never thought I'd ever have any kind of empathy for Sin, but wow, Bells did a real number on him. Knowing the Sin of book one made this such an interesting listen as although he still begins firmly in the morally grey column, watching the damage that is Bells and their toxic relationship unfold explains so much about his character. Although we don't know the full details going into the prequel there is a strong sense of foreboding throughout especially when you see how infatuated Sin is and how different this is from the character in Church. Michael Gallagher really sells it and there were some real emotional moments as Sin goes through the wringer as he deals with betrayal and his love turning to hate.

Desiree Ketchum almost had me feeling sorry for Bells at one point too; I loved her performance. Bells has a brutal past and caught the attention of someone who could manipulate it and use it to their advantage. I really liked how Bells' spiral was portrayed as you do see flashes of her questioning herself as to why she is like this along the way which gave her some depth. And Asylum was another highlight; I've not read the rest of the books yet but I have so many questions about him!

Bells was always a character I despised from what she did to Sin. I read the book before I did the audiobook, so I went in with all those feelings there. But hearing this story and the heartbreak from Sin. Gah, devastating but truly the production of this book by Blue Nose helped to give us readers a better understanding of the watchers for the rest of the series.

I love the background it gives for Sin!
