About this listen

TC Matson returns to Cameron Falls with a small town, second chance standalone about two high school sweethearts who turned enemies after ruining their relationship years ago.

Blake

In high school, Dakota Jayne was my everything.

My life. My soul. The air I breathed. She was my light.

One day we were planning the rest of our life.

The next I was picking up the shattered pieces of my broken heart.

She abandoned me without looking back.

Had she glanced in the rearview, she would’ve seen me chasing after her through the dust cloud she stirred up when she hightailed it out of town.

Now, eleven years later, she’s back and creating havoc between my heart and mind.

I hate her. She’s still beautiful.

She left me. I still love her.

I wish she’d go back to wherever the hell she came from so I can get on with my life.

Dakota

Blake Helms was my life.

We had everything planned out.

That’s until he devastated me and broke my heart.

So, I packed up all the pieces and left for college, leaving everything I had ever known behind me.

I finished college, settled into my career, and tried to forget him.

Then my grandmother passed away, bringing me back to this god-forsaken town.

I despise this place and all of the memories.

I hate him. He’s still gorgeous.

He broke me. I don’t want to still love him.

Leaving the first time was hard but leaving the second time might just kill me.

Back to Us is the second book in the Cameron Falls series. This book can be read and enjoyed as a standalone book. Blake and Dakota were high school sweethearts. They had their entire life planned out. Then everything crumbled. Now eleven years later Dakota has to come back to the small town of Cameron Falls. Her grandmother pasted away and now she has to come back to this town. These two hate each other. However, they both still can't help old feelings coming back to the surface. The tension is so thick between these two.

Kallestra Spencer and Duncan Prescott did a fantastic job narrating this book.

TC Matson pulls me back to Cameron Falls, and I am so happy to visit. This books features Dakota and Blake. The couple who is destined to be married falls apart when Dakota lets Blake know she is accepted to a college farther away than anticipated. That night, things take a turn for the worse and she leaves early to begin her new life, without the love of her life. Now it's years later, and she is back in Cameron Falls because of the death of her grandmother. Blake does not want to deal with seeing her, but things never go as planned. And what do they realize? That spark is still there. But how will this successful interior designer leave the cowboy she knows is the love of her life? This is a sweet and spicy story, melding so many of my favorite tropes and letting me see Pressley and Rhett which is a treat! Loved it, it is a great romantic escape!

Duncan Prescott and Kallestra Spencer bring this gem alive. Prescott brings the twang of Blake, and is a master at giving him the vulnerable pain and true romantic all with an inflection. Spencer is Dakota, full of hesitation, dealing with grief and still carries the pain of their breakup. Her emotions are spot on. I enjoyed these two and their performance.

Heart warming small town romance!

It is great to be back in TC Matson’s Cameron Falls for another wonderful novel, a small town, second chance romance that captivates your attention and tugs at your heartstrings the entire time. Dakota Jayne and Blake Helms’ romance started before high school, and they became each other’s everything, but their relationship came to an abrupt ending after a falling out and a heartbreaking misunderstanding. Dakota left for college and did not return home for eleven years, only returning for her grandmother’s funeral. She had to face her past and her ex, Blake, who stayed in Cameron Falls and remained friendly with her family. Their icy reunion went as well as expected, but it was clear there were unresolved feeling going on behind the anger and the pain, also clear that they never got over one another. I was rooting for these two, especially after finding out the reason for their breakup. This well-written and wonderfully plotted story has the perfect balance of drama, angst, some heartwarming moments, heartfelt emotions, and a fabulous second chance romance. TC Matson, thank you for another fabulous story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 Duncan Prescott and Kallestra Spencer did a fantastic of bringing these characters to life, and did so with a complete understanding of who they were portraying. I loved how they took each role and owned it, sounding believable and just as I imagine the characters to sound. Both nailed it in the two lead roles, embodying their character’s personality completely. They conveyed all the characters’ emotions in their performance, a captivating performance that rivets you to the story. Prescott and Spencer are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to.

This is the second book I’ve listened to in this series, and I have to say...T.C. Matson knows how to write a sweet, contemporary love story with a country flair. 🤎 I’m a country girl at heart, so this series really speaks to me. There’s just something about the mannerisms, the rhythm of small-town life, and the way people talk and care for each other that Matson absolutely nails.

Dakota and Blake were childhood sweethearts who broke up over a misunderstanding and are reunited eleven years later when Dakota returns home for her grandmother’s funeral. Now, I’ll admit- there were a few parts that made me raise an eyebrow. Both families clearly wanted them together, yet no one bothered to step in and point out how stubborn they were being? 😂 Some of the choices made by the heroine definitely had me eye-rolling a bit, but that’s part of the story’s charm. It reminds you not to hold grudges or let pride steal years of happiness. Despite a few “oh, come on!” moments, I genuinely enjoyed this book. It felt like slipping into an old, comfortable pair of blue jeans-familiar, easy, and warm. I’m already looking forward to the next in the series!
