About this listen

(An Alex King prequel - his first mission for MI6)

Days before the Good Friday Peace Agreement an IRA splinter cell plans a major heist on the British mainland forcing a newly released prisoner to crack just one more safe. Career criminal Simon Grant wants to go straight. He wants to win back his wife and see his son, but he knows that his chances of getting away from the Irishmen are slim. He doesn’t know that MI6 have him under surveillance, nor that Alex King has been given his first mission – to avoid the peace talks being derailed at any cost.

Real improvement with this reread. I’d like to hear joe redo the other couple that didn’t have great narration because the stories are always first class! They’re so immersive especially

So much better with Joe mills narrating

I've enjoyed a few of the later Alex King books but this prequel novel is set a lot earlier in his career and does not disappoint. Full of action and adventure it is an edge of the seat listen. All enhanced by Joe Mills superb narration with a variety of voices and accents. The ambience and SFX make this a very immersive experience. Highly recommended.
Thanks to the narrator for the review copy.

Brilliant narration from Joe Mills, who brings the action and drama to your ears.

So many twists and turns from start to finish. Simon Grant is out after serving time after robbery went wrong leaving a security guard bleeding and dying. Time has not healed many wounds. His wife has left and the guards family and friends want his blood. His old friends want him for a new job.
All the time we have the back story of the Good Friday Agreement. The M15 and M16 are watching the IRA and its splinter groups.
Nothing seems as it is, crimes and secrets, drama and action.
