Jack Reacher will make three stops today. Not all of them were planned for.

First – a Baltimore coffee shop. A seat in the corner, facing the door. Black coffee, two refills, no messing around. A minor interruption from two of the customers, but nothing he can’t deal with swiftly. As he leaves, a young guy brushes against him in the doorway. Instinctively Reacher checks the pocket holding his cash and passport. There's no problem. Nothing is missing.

Second – a store to buy a coat. Nothing fancy. Something he can ditch when he heads to warmer climates. Large enough to fit a man the size of a bank vault. As he pulls out his cash, he finds something new in his pocket. A handwritten note. A desperate plea for help.

Third – wherever this bend in the road takes him. Impressed by the guy's technique and intrigued by the message, Reacher makes it his mission to find out more . . .

We all need Jack Reacher – a righteous avenger for our troubled times.

Listen to an exclusive interview between Lee Child and Jeff Harding at the end of this audiobook. For the first time, Lee Child and Jeff Harding talk about bringing Reacher to life in audio and celebrate the 30th Reacher adventure.

These once great books have become written by numbers now and have lost the real depth of character and story telling the early books managed to convey.

Far too pedestrian with no depth.

The usual story of Reacher being Reacher, but that’s where the good stuff ends.
There was no actual jeopardy from the main villain(s) of the story. Even the extra heavies bought in from the side story were dealt with inside a paragraph or two!
No between the sheets action for Jack, poor lad isn’t getting much these days. There wasn’t even the usual “dumping the clothes in the trash”

And what is with this new author constantly throwing in names of footballers or people from the footballing world. David Moyles and Steve McClaren in this book along with a few others too. At least try and hide obscure names in it!
All in all, it was formulaic tosh.
And yet I’ll still await the next one eagerly!

First off brilliantly read by Jeff as always, however, ‘Reacher said, Gilmour said, castlewood said’ is not needed, with Jeff you know who’s who as he does voice change well.
Really disappointed with the whole story, i used to love & laugh at Reacher but now it just feels flat, I actually turned it off a few times as I wasn’t enjoying it, finally got to the end but I used it as background noise while working. Personally I think Reacher should retire gracefully.

Disappointing

I haven't liked the clipped way Reacher is speaking in the last few books. Saying little with ''Reacher said nothing', time after time. Lazy author I think is the problem. Andrew thinks we're so stuck on Reacher that we don't need the words so he doesn't bother to write them. Well you're wrong. he now sounds senile, tired and ready for his old age to just take over. Lee expects you to write more books but at this rate Reacher just won't make it. Really disappointed in this story, Not the man with the ideas any more. And hated the style of Reacher ready for retirement. Not for me.

Reacher getting old and tired

My comment really is about the interview part. Tom Cruise is not a really nice guy. He knows child slave labour is used to make his life easier and he's ok with that. That's not ok, he's not nice, he's the worst kind of person.

Otherwise, great book, I struggled to hear the difference between the two main characters but I'm not well so probably have bunged ears.

Loved some of the great female characters too.

Book was amazing
