About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
In L.A., a star-studded movie premiere descends into chaos when a shooter opens fire on the crowd.
The culprit escapes and boards a plane to Dublin, Ireland.
Jack Morgan, the head of the world’s largest private detective agency, is at the premiere and his partner Justine is badly wounded in the shooting.
Following the gunman to Dublin, Jack soon realises that this is much bigger than a single shooter. What Jack thought was a random act of violence was actually a targeted attempt on his life.
To ensure the safety of those he loves most, Jack must find the person who is so intent on his downfall – and eliminate them once and for all.
Loved the readers, easy listening. Look forward to the next book
Great story

totally under researched Ireland

The research is almost non-existent. The routes taken by the characters are bizarre, as though someone looked at a map for thirty seconds and then guessed the rest. If you actually know the city, the geography will throw you out of the story almost immediately. Instead of adding atmosphere, the setting becomes a distraction.
Then there is the pronunciation, which is so consistently bad that it becomes unintentionally funny. The Irish police, Gardaí, are called “Gard-eye” throughout. The correct pronunciation is “Gard-ee.” Singular is Garda, but that isn’t used correctly either. Place names and other Irish words are mangled one after the other, which might pass for accuracy if you’ve never set foot here, but for anyone from Ireland it is like listening to nails on a chalkboard.
The accents are somehow worse. Rather than sounding like people you might actually meet in Dublin, they sound like cartoon characters. Imagine the most over-the-top stage-Oirish accent you have ever heard, and then make it even broader. That is what you get here. It is hard to take anything seriously when every conversation sounds like a parody.
All of this might have been bearable if the story had been strong, but unfortunately the plot is one of the weakest in the series. The pacing feels sluggish, the characters never really come alive, and there are no satisfying twists to make the slog worthwhile. By the midpoint, I was listening out of stubbornness more than interest, hoping it would improve. It didn’t.
Eventually, I had to give up, and that almost never happens for me, especially with this series. This book managed to take a setting full of character and history and turn it into something so flat and inaccurate that I could not finish it.
Dublin deserves better, and so do Private fans. This could have been a fantastic story with the right research, good voice actors, and a little care for authenticity. Instead, it feels rushed, careless, and out of touch. If you are Irish, or have even spent a weekend here, you may find yourself wincing too much to enjoy the story.
Painful to Listen To
Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
The start of the series with an investigation & security agency doing their jobs was much more enjoyable and realistic.
Please revert to the original premise of the series.
Performance is good but let down by a poor and completely unrealistic storyline.
Another poor story in the series
