A new case won't solve Parker's old problems....

An excellent sequel! There a still several plots/subplots but I found them more fluid.
This book had a good plot, magic, sexy scenes, humour and interesting new characters!
And the narrator, as always, did an amazing job!

Like the first book I enjoyed this a lot and there is a lot to like but it’s not perfect. I really like the characters, the world building and magic system. I like Parker, I find him realistic and flawed but not annoying, I still feel like I don’t know Nick and I still don’t think this falls in the romance category- I can’t put my finger on why but they just don’t seem romantically interested in each other and there’s not enough intimacy. I don’t mind limited spice with a good plot but I think more spice or intimacy would help here. The relationship already feels lacking so the tidbits you get feel extremely underwhelming.

Plot wise it’s okay, nothing earth shattering but decent enough to keep you interested. I didn’t feel entirely satisfied with pace but it’s not terrible.


My biggest issue is the constant use of similies, metaphors and pop culture references it absolutely floods the dialogue, it’s literally exhausting. It’s every other paragraph and to the point where it distracts from important plot points. For example.. “it was dark”.. as dark as night, as dark as the ocean, like a nightmare that won’t end, deep in space, in the jaws of a beast, a fire extinguished by black on black, a shadow with no end.. WE GET IT - it’s dark 🤦🏼‍♀️
