So I like this series! I don’t love it. Definitely tops at a 3 star. I enjoy the low stakes and low angst for an easy chill read to pass the time..but wouldn’t recommend it tbh. I really enjoy this genre on the whole, and I find this magical system interesting. I like Parker, he’s flawed but I find him likeable… I still don’t feel as though I know Nick at all and I would never classify this as romance, its so light on anything romantic it may as well have been left out entirely - Nick just seems to come in from work - end scene- wake up and leave - end scene- and occasionally they do something to do with work together- they just read like friends or brothers in terms of dynamic to me. I don’t think they’ve progressed or truly evolved beyond book 1.
My main issue is the same issue I’ve had with all the books - it’s so exhausting in terms of similies, metaphors and pop culture references, it’s so wordy and repetitive that I start to drift away from the important stuff and have to really pay attention when the actual dialogue picks back up. I’ve read 136 books this year alone and I’ve never seen this style of writing before I find it outright bizarre to flood so much of the writing with nonsense.
I also think it’s extremely similar to Alice Winters Demon magic series, more in terms of characters than plot. Even down to not-a-cat - it all feels very, very similar.

Greg is phenomenal as usual!
