About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Over 1 million Discworld audiobooks sold – discover the extraordinary universe of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld like never before.

The audiobook of Carpe Jugulum is narrated by Indira Varma (Game of Thrones; Luther; This Way Up). BAFTA and Golden Globe award-winning actor Bill Nighy (Love Actually; Pirates of the Caribbean; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) reads the footnotes, and Peter Serafinowicz (Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace; Shaun of the Dead) stars as the voice of Death. Steven Cree (Outlander; A Discovery of Witches) voices the Nac Mac Feegles. Featuring a new theme tune composed by James Hannigan.

"'Carpe Jugulum,' read Agnes aloud. 'That's . . . well, Carpe Diem is Seize the Day, so this means -'
'Go for the throat . . .'"

Vampires have come to Lancre, but they're not what you'd expect. Sure, they drink blood and view humans as dinner, but they're modern and sophisticated. They've got style and fancy waistcoats. And they're not a bit afraid of garlic.

The Magpyr family are out of the casket and want a bite of the future. But they haven't met the neighbours yet.

Between them and Lancre stand a coven of four - Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg, Magrat and young Agnes - and they don't take kindly to murderous intruders . . .

'An enduring, endearing presence in comic literature' Guardian

'Incredibly funny . . . compulsively readable' The Times

Carpe Jugulum is the sixth book in the Witches series, but you can listen to the Discworld novels in any order.

The first book in the Discworld series - The Colour of Magic - was published in 1983. Some elements of the Discworld universe may reflect this.

The narrator just gets better in these books. Her voices are absolutely perfect in my mind. I was very nervous about this because it's one of my favourites and previous narrators have ruined it, in my opinion. I needn't have worried, she's absolutely brilliant with it and the others in the Witches arc, and I can listen to them over and over. Bill Nighy sounds bored doing the footnotes.

Just perfect

I have been enjoying Indira Varma’s excellent performance of the witches series. She is a revelation as a narrator. More, please.

Indira Varma's narration of the Witches of Lancre books is great. She puts so much emotion and atmosphere into the stories, and her Granny Weatherwax voice in particular is spot on. Steven Cree's Feegles are even better than Stephen Briggs's (and I never thought I would say that!). Peter Serafinowicz as Death? Hilarious, and he has the timbre to carry it off. And Bill Nighy has all the dry humour necessary to convey the footnotes, which have long been one of my favourite parts of any Discworld novel

These new recordings, in general, are a perfect tribute to the late great Pterry's works, and well worth the price of an Audible credit even if you already have the Nigel Planer/Stephen Briggs versions.

Wonderful

Absolutely loved it, but slow to start but very exciting second half. I love the new narration.

Lush read!

I love the story but was let down slightly by the narration. I feel Nigel Palner does the best version of the voices of the disc world characters but I couldn't get his version which is very disappointing.
