A shocking, page-turning crime thriller from top 50 bestselling author, Ross Greenwood

It's hard to live when you think you deserve to die…

When a tired old inmate is found dead in his cell, the prison is obligated to investigate and so DI Barton attends. The men he interviews have been convicted of some of the worst things a human being can do, but it appears likely that the death was due to natural causes.

When the house of the dead man is burgled and that crime is followed by a suspicious fire, Barton desperately needs to speak to his widow, but she’s nowhere to be found.

In the space of twenty-four hours, everyone he wants to talk to has vanished. Then he receives some post which makes him believe he could be the next to disappear.

Barton’s investigation goes full circle, through a series of brutal murders, back to the prison, and all signs are pointing to the fact that he’s made a terrible mistake.

There’s a violent killer on the loose, who wants everyone to learn that some people deserve to die.

Another excellent book in this series. It deals with some dreadful issues but it is done sensitively. Interesting to have a peek into prison system and the associated services. I like the way the author shows the killer and the detective’s separate points of view and David Thorpe is excellent (as usual) at creating the two separate personalities in his interpretation.

Excellent

What a talented writer this man is. From the beginning right up until the last word it is a great read. His characterisations are so well identified, and so well fleshed out, that you feel something different for each of them, which makes them very real. He also is extraordinarily good at the observational side of family life, making DI Bartons family very three dimensional and totally believable. The family dynamic resonates, and gives an interesting foil for the other side of John Barton’s life. I have now read all of the DI Barton series to date, I can’t wait for the next one.

Another superb offering from Ross Greenwood

I’m only half way through and I’m loving it…I’m going to have to limit my listening time as this is the last one in the series currently on Audible. The gang is all back and the murders start off in a prison. I would add that this book does have a story line which features child molestation but it’s not graphic and sensitively handled.

This book is well worth my credit and the narration is brilliant.

The best yet!
