About this listen

A new, edge-of-your-seat DI Barton thriller from bestselling author Ross Greenwood.

The next chapter could be your last...

The annual December gathering of the local book club is usually a relaxed affair, a chance for old acquaintances to catch up. But this year, the convivial evening takes a sinister turn. Detective Inspector Barton is called to investigate and quickly uncovers a web of dark secrets and long-held resentments hidden beneath the club's friendly facade.

When murder is confirmed, Barton finds himself in a race against time to unmask the killer before they strike again. But with every clue he uncovers, the truth becomes more twisted than he could ever have imagined.

In a group where everyone knows everyone, trust is a dangerous game, and this cold-blooded killer is ready to fool them all...

Barton is Back! Ross Greenwood returns to his bestselling series, perfect for fans of Mark Billingham and Ian Rankin.

I have loved the DI Barton book series from start to finish. Each book is so well written that you feel like you know the characters - DI/DCI Barton, his wife and hilarious children, the police team (whose friendships are realistic and heartwarming), and the killer, with their motives and trauma explained in detail. This book, as with the others in the series, tells the story of DCI Barton and colleagues working together to solve a murder, with twists and turns throughout. The humour made me laugh out loud and I was once again saddened when the book ended. Definitely worth a read/listen, but please start with book 1 so you get to know each character as the series progresses.

Brilliant characters and story, as always

I have loved this series. The main police characters are all believable, their relationships and interactions with one another are always interesting. And oh wouldn’t the world be a better place if the police and particularly men were as decent as the author portrays them. I really enjoy listening to anything Mr Thorpe narrates as well. I highly recommend this series, as well as Mr Greenwood’s Norfolk Murder series. Again, about decent people doing a really difficult job. Highly recommended

Is this really the end??
