This is my favourite adaptation of my favourite book. Stunning and atmospheric throughout. I particularly enjoyed the music.

wonderful

I first listened to this dramatisation when I was 11, and without exaggeration I can honestly say that it change my life. I fell in love with Tolkien, but I also learned so much about storytelling and performance, poetry and language, friendship and endeavour. It really is a titanic achievement, and I recommend it to everyone.

One of the best dramatisations of any novel ever

Every bit as good as the films. Better in many respects. An absolutely brilliant production.

Just awesome

part 3 of the BBC radio adaptation. Brian Sibley did an excellent job as he manages to cut each part down to an evening's entertainment without leaving the listener confused. As a lifelong fan of Tolkien and all his works, I am amazed that this was feasible (especially as this predates the film trilogy!

SUPERB!

Words cannot express how good this dramatisation of The Return of the King truly is. The Battle of the Pelennor Fields in particular, here presented through sharp dialogue interwined with a haunting song, left me speechless and lost in thought for a long while. I was also pleasantly surprised that the Scouring of the Shire, which I have always considered a necessary part of the narrative and journey, was not ommited! As for the ending itself... well, let us just say that it got me, and it got me good.

Into the West
