Harry Bosch finds himself yet again in charge of a case that no one else will touch. This time his job is to nail the killer of hot shot black lawyer Howard Elias. Elias has been found murdered on the eve of going to court on behalf of Michael Harris, a man the LAPD believes guilty of the rape and murder of a twelve-year-old girl. Elias had let it be known that the aim of his civil case was not only to reveal the real killer but to target and bring down the racist cops who beat up his client during a violent interrogation.

Now it's all down to Bosch - and he's got to take a long, hard look at some of his colleagues in a police department that is rife with suspicion and hatred.

Have loved every single Harry Bosch book so far, however this narrator seemed to have little to no understanding of the meaning of the sentences he was reading. Inflections were all over the place, the tone was dreadful and pauses were unpredictable and inappropriate. Shame.

Great book, terrible narration.

Really good story but the biggest disappointment was the change in narrator from the previous book. He's nowhere near as good and it took a long time for me to adjust.

really good.

Had me on the edge of my seat. Great plot and characters. Narration of Bosch a bit irritating at first but got used to it. Other characters voices done very well.

Another brilliant novel in the series.

I read this first some 10 years ago but recently have been listening to the Harry Bosch books in order. They are all good but this is a great novel. The story is gripping, as you would expect but it is the whole backdrop of the undercurrents in the city of Los Angeles which make this a great book. Michael Connelly is an awesome writer and his attention to detail is superb. The reader is really good and does female and male voices well. First class.

One of the best from Michael Connelly

as per Bosch is the worst/best detective ever but now more conflicted than ever with his case. this one takes some characters and turns them on their head. very good.
