Summary
The eighth book in the bestselling Chronicles of St Mary's series which follows a group of tea-soaked disaster magnets as they hurtle their way around History. If you love Jasper Fforde or Ben Aaronovitch, you won't be able to resist Jodi Taylor.
Because, my dear Max, you dance on the edge of darkness ... and I don't think it would take very much for you to dance my way.
When an old enemy appears out of nowhere with an astonishing proposition for Max - a proposition that could change everything Max is tempted. Very tempted.
With an end to an old conflict finally in sight, it looks as if St Mary's problems are over with. Can they all now live happily ever after?
As everything hangs in the balance, Max and St Mary's find themselves engulfed in tragedies worse than they could ever imagine.
Is this the end?
Critic reviews
"Taylor has written a madcap and very funny hodgepodge of a novel whose pacing and humour is reminiscent of a Simon Pegg-Edgar Wright film." ( Booklist)

Jodi Never Disappoints!
If you could sum up And the Rest Is History in three words, what would they be?
emotional, side-splittingly funny
What did you like best about this story?
The way Jody Taylor writes a story that is both incredibly funny yet also exceptionally emotional and at times very difficult to read. Her work satisfies my need for something that both makes me laugh uncontrolably and cry like a baby.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
It's hard to choose because there are so many great ones, but the tea party in the grounds is probably my favourite. I don't want to spoil it for anyone. Just read it! Zara's naration is incredible, so that aspect of the series will not disappoint.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
without spoiling anything, I really loved the scene where Max is sitting on the stairs and suddenly she is surrounded by almost the entire staff of St Mary's while they all await Leon's return. It's just a beautiful display of solidarity, and written so well. I wish I worked there.
Any additional comments?
It's so hard to write about this book without giving anything away. Chances are if you read the previous 7 books, you will read it anyway, but if you haven't, then you really need to start from the beginning. Don't start from here as the jumping around in time will really lose you. This series is however one of the most rewarding I have ever read, so give it a try!

Loved it.
Wept a lot. Smiled a lot.
When is Book 9 due ????
As usual I listened from start to end in one go; unable to wait till tomorrow to finish it.
Zara Ramm is a five star narrator and brings Jodi Taylor's story to life, giving the characters dimension.
Excellent work.

I love this series sooo much and this was right up there as my second favourite in the whole series!!! The first book will always be my favourite. Zara narrates amazingly and is the voice of Max (And a brilliant Markham too!). Exciting, gripping, funny, emotional and so much fun. When is the next one out ?!!!

The Best yet
From start (max's worst day) to finish this is a fast paced, rollercoaster of a novel, full of one liners mixed with sadness and joy. The place of historical events in contemporary time visited where - Ancient Egypt, the lead up to the Norman Conquest and the battles of Stamford Bridge and Hastings, and finally the Fall of Constantinople.
A cracking read and real page turner, in an audio way

Warning! Tissues will be needed,
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend the whole series to anyone, but of cause, read in order.
What other book might you compare And the Rest Is History to, and why?
There is no other quite like this one. Yet again Jodi Taylor has taken us on a rollercoaster of emotions and then added more. I cried and laughed and cried again whilst still learning amazing facts about historical events. Why weren't my history lessons made this interesting?
What does Zara Ramm bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
I could not imagine anyone else reading these books now, she is for me the voice and character of Max.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Luckily I chose a day when I was alone and free to listen, I could not sleep until I was done!
I'm now exhausted and contented

Welcome back!!
Need the next one NOW!! Talk about a cliff-hanger - many cliffs, all perilously hanging!! My only alternative is to go back to the beginning and listen to the entire series over again! First one downloading as I write - - - -

And the world went white
I love these books. I've listened to them all quite close together so am immersersed in the world of st Mary's. I feel a bit like a honorary member of the establishment, a small unimportant one! Anyway the plot has a bit of a running theme through these books but there is so much else including a lot of warmth and humour that carries you over the very minor repetition. As ever time travel (which they don't do) is complicated and gives you something to think about. I really really love Zara ramm reading these books, she is max to me. She makes the audio books a superior listen. My only complaint about this particular book is that it is over far to quickly as I listened while I painted a bedroom, now I'm up to date I have to wait for the author to write the next one. Damn. A pod would be handy now....go back a few books......

Have tissues at the ready
Would you listen to And the Rest Is History again? Why?
I'd listen again as I like being in the St Mary's world
What was one of the most memorable moments of And the Rest Is History?
There were lots in this book, and I cried a lot, many times. I'm trying not to post spoilers!
Have you listened to any of Zara Ramm’s other performances? How does this one compare?
Listened to all the audio recordings of the St Mary stories. Ms Ramm is consistently excellent
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, needed recovery time. See memorable moments above
Any additional comments?
Bring on the next one... oh and if you haven't read the previous books, please start at book one, I promise you'll get more out of this one
