There’s a smokin’ hot dead guy locked in my garden shed. That part’s bad enough. But now, he’s trying to get out...Growing up, my father always told me that I’d come to a bad end, just like my mom did when I was a kid. Hearing that kind of shit when you’re little eventually gets to a girl, but I can’t say I ever expected my "bad end" to involve an angry vampire with a severe case of iron deficiency and a panty-melting English accent.

Getting fed up
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
The third book in the series and am starting to get fed up of the cliffhanger endings. I can't leave without it being wrapped up but the problems with the other books still haven't been addressed making it harder and harder to stay happy with the series. I understand she is a mother and an investigator but at the same time I don't see her being much of a mother throughout this book. Her son is ill but rather than spend time with him often she is out doing cases and leaving her daughter with her sister who seems to be raising her.
The repetition of information is getting highly irritating. You have mentioned her cold hands 100 times now and still doesn't have any real relevance to the story. Why have the children as part of the story if you are going to just mention that they are either with their dad or at her sisters?

Great addtion to the Series!
What did you love best about American Vampire?
I love how the characters development over the series, and how Samantha's skills seem to evolve with each story.
What did you like best about this story?
In this story, we finally get to know who Fang is which I did not see that coming. I love it when a plot takes me by surprise.
Any additional comments?
This is not typical vampire story and does not betray vampires as being perfect. Yeah, Samantha has heightened senses and strength, but she cannot been seen in a mirror, or go out in the sun. Oh, and she can only drink blood and some white wine. Then she can turn into a creature that can fly.

Good, Light Reading
I am a fan of this series, but it's a bit like a good bowl of popcorn; you enjoy it while you're eating it, and you're certainly sorry when it's done, but if something else exciting comes along, you can easily put it down. That said, I have purchased every book and will continue to do so. The writing is smooth, although I felt something was 'off' on the interpersonal relationships until I discovered JR Rain is a man-- then it made sense. Don't get me srong, he is a good writer and makes a great story and an easy read, but the women's inner voice seems like a man's version of a woman's inner voice if you know what a mean. This is a good combo of supernatural and mystery, reminded me of Dresden Files a little. Overall, a good, solid easy to digest series that I will stick with.

Good light listen
This book a generally a good pulp novel about a vampire and her work. You'll have to listen to the first two books for this one to make much sense, and if you've listened to them, you know what to expect. This one isn't quite as good, in my opinion. It's a little more scattered, and some of the integrity of the character is missing. In addition, the author manages to really stretch the suspension of disbelief at one point in the novel, which should be hard to do in a novel that has already has vampires, werewolves and the like.
In terms of performance, the reader is decent, but there are occasional moments when you can tell that she moved in relation to the mike or had a sentence edited in after the fact. This is unfortunate, as it pulls you out of the story a bit.
Overall, not bad, and I will probably get the next in the series eventually, but I'm not rushing to download it yet.

Good....But!!!!
What did you like best about American Vampire? What did you like least?
I really like this series, and up until this one was very happy with it. But as a Mom I kept saying to myself " go to your son....go to your son", maybe since the author is a male he doesn't realize that a Mom would never leave her child if he's that sick. It was just frustrating.
What was one of the most memorable moments of American Vampire?
When she meant Fang.
Have you listened to any of Dina Pearlman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes, she's a great narrator, she also does the Anna Strong books, I absolutely love her. She got 5 Stars
Was American Vampire worth the listening time?
Yes, even though I had a lot of MOM FRUSTRATION, it was still a good book.
Any additional comments?
If you enjoy this series, still listen or read it.

Good, but not quite as satisfying as the first two
I really enjoyed the first two installments of this series, but not so much this one. It was good, too. But I felt that there was a bit too much unexplained as far as Fang was concerned. Also, because the title was "American Vampire" and we learn that that was Fang's moniker when he was being tried for murder I thought there would be more explanation and exploration about Fang. It fell kind of flat in that aspect, though there is enough other continuing drama in Samantha's life to carry the book. There was just too much unexplained as far as Fang is concerned. I appreciate that Samantha is able to get some of her "life" back in a satisfying way so that her ex isn't always able to get the best of her. Again, we are left hanging at the end as it segues into another storyline. Dina Pearlman is a first rate narrator.

Disappointed in this entry of the series
So I loved the first two books in the series but I was pretty disappointed in this one. The mystery in the story was great and helped bring more of the supernatural world into Sam’s life. There was way too much about Sam’s personal life and way too much of re-hashing of the previous stories. Her personal life is a mess in this one and I am reaching the point where I am about to beg the author to just give her some happiness. The constant drama just drags the story down and down. There is no telling what the author has in store for her next. My biggest disappointment was in the character of Fang. I did like how he is introduced and who he is but not what he is. I will continue with this series because I continue to adore Sam and Lt. Sherbert. Sorry there isn't more but it just gives away too much of the story.

So much world building and sadness
I know writers want you to read the next book but these long drawn out cliffhangers seem like blackmail. On the other hand, once I start the next book just to find the end something else keeps me reading past it. The world and characters surprise me regularly and aren't just run of the mill.

Much worse than the first books
The whole book she is either sitting and crying, or admiring another heavy-set man for his manly body or breathlessly repeating same talk to the small girl who was kidnapped. The whole is getting sillier and sillier with every minute. Pity as initially it looked like promising series.

Another good offering in the series, but not great
One story line - the detective aspect - was barely concluded; after the entire book chasing down clue, suspects & victims, that issue was wrapped up & discarded in less than 1 chapter. Then came the major cliffhanger, not totally unexpected but a bit lame almost like “and then she woke up.” The romantic semi-interests are vacillating between worthy of regard and take a hike. I still like the main character, so will continue until/unless it gets too disjointed or redundant. Still adore the narrator.
