READ BY ARDAL O'HANLON.

‘This is delicate storytelling with wit and charm: quite wonderful’ DAILY MAIL

The first in a warm, witty and wonderfully twisty new mystery series from much-loved Irish actor, writer and comedian Ardal O’Hanlon - perfect for fans of Graham Norton, Richard Osman and Death in Paradise.

When celebrity gardener Finn O’Leary returns to his hometown of Abbeyford, Ireland, to care for his ageing mother, he is quickly roped into the local Tidy Towns committee. With the competition fiercely fought for by every town and village in the country, Finn’s best friend’s sister, Aoife, is determined that this will finally be Abbeyford’s year.

But Finn has barely unpacked before an alto-baritone drops dead during his mother’s choir practice, midway through a rendition of ‘What the World Needs Now’.

Soon, there is far more at stake than flowerbeds and civic pride. With his mother, her carer, Happiness, and Aoife in tow, Finn sets out to discover who has brought murder to Abbeyford.

And so it begins.

Unless the author’s voice is unknown, and they have acting skills, I don’t think reading your own book is worthwhile. I’ve had a few audio books read by authors and none have been good. In this case, all of it was read too fast, surely a producer’s fault, too Plus, not enough differentiation between characters. It went on a bit too long and needed to have been edited. It seems to be a problem with actors, turned authors, particularly if actor so well known, and oldish, and reading as a young character. Their face and voice keep intruding. So won’t be reading another.

Authors, please don’t read your own books!

I like Ardal O'Hanlon as an actor and listening to him was fine, but every character's voice sounded similar and so I began to lose track of who was speaking and even what was happening.
The story was too slow, and the exposition became too much. I listened for just over 2 hours before I gave up. It's sad because I've been looking forward to this book being released.

Slow and meandering
