A Mind for the Fight provides you with the necessary tools to facilitate a critical evolution in your survival mindset. Retired Green Beret, renowned martial artist, and infamous street fighter Jim "Smokey" West offers a comprehensive guide to developing the mental game necessary to turn your defense into offense when a violent street assault finds you. Moreover, this audiobook presents the foundation, framework, and technical fight principles of American Extension Fighting, a philosophy of martial arts that takes a nonlinear, systems-focused approach toward a unified skill set for the 21st century. Gaps exist in everyone's skill set; AEF's goal is to fill those gaps and to do so with a guilt-free assessment of individual system variances and system failures, fostering continual improvement—improvement that will ensure you survive and thrive when confronted with chaotic, real-world violence. A Mind for the Fight offers you a road map to excellence in both combat sports and street survival, enabling you to work through fear, eradicate the threat, and come out on the other side.

I don't understand how this book got the great reviews it did. Not only is it a self-glorification by the author, some of the principles he stands by are also very dangerous if not illegal (e.g. be prepared to do the maximum damage you can). I got bored listening to his 10 (!) fights to be honest as I wasn't getting anything out of it other than his thirst for violence. But the final straw for me was when he told the story about a bar fight, where, after the fight was broken up, he walked past the attacker and hit him so hard that the guy's brain stem was damaged and he ended up in a wheelchair. As a martial artists a well-known figure he shouldn't incite violence or brag about such incidents. His book is not about self-defence, which should end as soon as you can get away to safety, but about how to do the most damage to someone, even after the threat has gone. an ideology that - in my country - is criminal and illegal. I am very tempted to just put this book down. I was hoping to find out more about the mindset of a fighter and how to perform under the pressure during an attack but so far there hasn't been anything about that. What a waste of time and money.

Violence inciting and dangerous
