“Everyone wants better meetings, but no one seems to know how—until now.” —Reid Hoffman, New York Times bestselling author and cofounder of LinkedIn

“Warning: This read may save you countless hours.” —Adam Grant, #1 New York Times bestselling author and host of the podcast Re:Thinking

A Master Chief story and original full-length novel set in the Halo universe—based on the New York Times bestselling video game series!

October 2559. It has been a year since the renegade artificial intelligence Cortana issued a galaxy-wide ultimatum, subjecting many worlds to martial law under the indomitable grip of her Forerunner weapons. Outside her view, the members of Blue Team—John-117, the Master Chief; Fred-104; Kelly-087; and Linda-058—are assigned from the UNSC Infinity to make a covert insertion onto the ravaged planet Reach.

Their former home and training ground—and the site of humanity’s most cataclysmic military defeat near the end of the Covenant War—Reach still hides myriad secrets after all these years. Blue Team’s mission is to penetrate the rubble-filled depths of CASTLE Base and recover top-secret assets locked away in Dr. Catherine Halsey’s abandoned laboratory—assets which may prove to be humanity’s last hope against Cortana.

But Reach has been invaded by a powerful and ruthless alien faction, who have their own reasons for being there. Establishing themselves as a vicious occupying force on the devastated planet, this enemy will soon transform Blue Team’s simple retrieval operation into a full-blown crisis. And with the fate of the galaxy hanging in the balance, mission failure is not an option…

I’m finally up to date as this is the last book in the Halo chronology. And I’m glad to say that I’m pleased with how this journey has, so far, been going! It’s satisfying that the final book in the timeline is a Master Chief story and we learn a lot about what the Chief and Blue Team are/have been going through since Cortana took over at the end of Guardians. These stories (including the games) have always shied away from going into John 117’s feelings and emotions because, as we all know, he’s supposed to be a badass super solider! But the man will be 49 years old in Halo Infinite and he’s seen some serious stuff. He’s saved the galaxy on multiple occasions and he’s always done so with his trusty AI partner Cortana by his side. And yet now, she’s gone and betrayed him and all of humanity for her own version of the greater good. It’s interesting hearing what the Master Chief thinks of all of this and how it makes him feel. This book was like a therapy session for John and, in a way, a therapy session for the Halo fan reading it.

Up until now I’ve had a lot of trepidation about the way the recent games were going and how the new one would turn out. But after reading Shadows of Reach it feels as if everything that’s happened in the new games (even the old games) and all the novels has been feeding into a pre-planned ending that none of us saw coming. I’ve got my theories for the new game but I won’t say anything until I’ve played it. Let’s just say that I’m very excited and that this book was 100% worth the listen.

So much excitement for the new game!!

...with great humanity from giant green robots. It's hard not to be drawn in by the action and tense moments of survival. The nostalgia is a bonus!

A great prequel.

I have always been hesitant on ever listening to an audio book. I always read books rather listen to another person read them, but I'm glad I did it.
With Shadows of Reach being a recent release, and me being eager to avoid spoiler, I needed access to this story immediately. So I finally signed up to Audible and claimed this book as my first.

Not only was the Audible experience as good as I could've hoped, but the book was just perfect. As a longtime Halo fan, listening to this was an amazing experience. My thanks for that go to the author, who has done nothing but write brilliant stories, and the voice. Narrator? I don't know, but he perfected this story.

a great first experience!

ABSOLUTE ENJOYMENT
