Can a good company become a great one? If so, how?
After a five-year research project, Jim Collins concludes that good to great can and does happen. In this book, he uncovers the underlying variables that enable any type of organisation to make the leap from good to great while other organisations remain only good. Rigorously supported by evidence, his findings are surprising - at times even shocking - to the modern mind.
Good to Great achieves a rare distinction: a management book full of vital ideas that reads as well as a fast-paced novel. It is widely regarded as one of the most important business books ever written.

One of the best business books that I've read
One of the best business books that I've read so far.
What differentiated this book compared to other books on the subject is that while other business authors that I've read tended to formulate ideas, patterns and a narrative based on select anecdotal evidence (typically CEOs they're friends with), Jim Collins and his team set out to find common characteristics of companies going from good to great using scientific methods and based on well-defined criteria, THEN contacted key (ex)management of these companies to find out what were the key factors in their transformations.
The Level 5 leader, Hedgehog Concept and the Flywheel are all now well-known terms with successful technology companies and it was interesting to find out that all of them are formulated based on rigorous research.
The book contains multiple engaging stories from the select companies and the reading of the book (I listened on Audible) is very entertaining.
Highly recommended.

I wish I read it couple of years ago...
This book is great for anyone, lot of analogies used to describe companies can be applied to personal development and career management.
‘20 mile walk’ resonated with me the most, but all the concepts were well thought through and applicable in entrepreneurship and personal careers.

Counter intuitive excellent read
I loved the book for its counter intuitive content. Too many executive teams rollout motivation campaigns that fail time and time again. This book shows that executives leading by example is the greatest motivation. Hiring the right people means that you need only retain them and incentivize them. No motivation required.
Level five leadership qualities were explained more from a philosophical perspective... I think the book could have benefitted from Elliot Jacque’s “stratified systems theory “
I recommend this for all executive leadership teams.

Timeless and True
I read this book many years ago as an executive starting a new team and listened again now as small business owner.
I genuinely forgot how good it was and super helpful as we continue to grow our business.
I would certainly recommend to all those looking to improve their performance and their teams.
