Summary

Random House presents the audiobook edition of The First Lady by James Patterson, read by Deborah McBride.

A President's affair to remember soon becomes a nightmare he wishes he could forget in James Patterson's gripping new stand-alone thriller.

As he steps out of his hotel in Atlanta with the love of his life, the last thing President Tucker expects is to be greeted by the flashing cameras of the media. Or for his affair to be revealed to the world.

The President must act to stop the scandal from spiralling out of control, just weeks before the vote for a second term. But not before he figures out how to keep the First Lady on his side.

Grace Tucker, however, has other plans.

Betrayed and deeply hurt, she heads for a safe haven outside the capital. But when her security detail loses all trace of her, all hell breaks loose.

The First Lady is missing. Did she run away? Or is she in more danger than they could have imagined...

First the President Now the First Lady!

So he's done The President Is Missing with Bill Clinton and now he's done the First Lady is mssing with Brendan Dubois. You might think that Patterson is struggling for ideas. While the book with Clinton really struggled being burdened by constant moralising from the book's president this one is shorter and more concise making it a much easier read. Despite the interesting notion of America's First Lady going missing though this is pretty much cookie-cutter thriller material with pretty one-dimensional characters who act as much for the benefit of the thin plot as any logical motivation.

The narration is clear and precise but more a reading than a real performance, it doesn't always inject urgency where it's needed. So, it's a reasonable read and definitely lacking the turgid parts of that previous book but I think most people will find better value elsewhere including this author's Alex Cross series.

Surprising Good Listen

It annoys me that James Patterson has his name emblazoned in huge letters on each of his book covers when he often gets other authors to write his books.
This is a Patterson and DuBois collaboration. To my shame, I’d never heard of DuBois, but he is a successful seasoned author and even won the US version of The Chase Quiz TV programme.
I really enjoyed this audiobook. Firstly, the narrator was superb, and that always makes an essential difference.
Secondly, this was a ripping good story, easy to read but complex enough to keep me gripped.
Well formed characters..... lots of them too, but the plot zipped along and was easy to follow despite the large cast!
This is ideal film material. Well worth a read, and I would certainly listen to more Patterson/DuBois novels. Well done chaps!!

Book ok . But narration not good.

I normally love James Patterson, but I found myself getting bored. Usually the narrator keeps your interest and you look forward at all times to the next chapter. Unfortunately, this time the narrator ruined for me, and I very disappointingly gave up on the book.

Hard to listen to

The story was decent but man the narration was tough to listen to. Very monotone, no life in it.
