As a child, I was always drawn to stories with strong characters who wanted to change the world. Every book I read and every movie I watched was immediately transformed in my mind with additional characters and different story-lines or plot points. I carried a notebook everywhere I went to jot down experiences, character ideas, or observations. I never felt like I fit in, so I'd create new characters and stories to make myself feel more included. When I was twenty years old, I was a victim of domestic violence. I still bear the scars, physically and emotionally, from that time in my life. A time when I lost myself and allowed my self-worth to drown in a sea of uncertainty. At twenty-one, I felt a calling to serve my community, so I became a deputy sheriff on patrol who worked the midnight shift. Over the course of five years, I became a decorated officer who specialized in crisis situations. I learned much about the world, and the people in it, by serving. Unfortunately, I was injured in the line of duty and was forced to medically retire. Now, with a traumatic brain injury and a Chiari I Malformation, I suffer from debilitating headaches, daily pain, personality changes, and many other symptoms. If not for my family, I would never have found my way back to the words I love. I hope, through my stories and characters, I can help impact one person the way I have been impacted. Finding my way after losing so much of myself has not been easy. The PREY world has been a project thirteen years in the making. It represents a new path. It is my new beginning. I hope it is as entertaining for you as it has been for me. I live in Virginia on a small hobby farm with my husband, son, two German Shepherds, chickens, ducks, and rabbits. My husband is a former Marine who currently serves as a deputy sheriff.
