I have written fiction since I was a teenager. My proudest moment was having a short story published in a science fiction magazine when I was a senior in high school. I wrote short fiction periodically the rest of my adult life. During Vietnam, I carried a small portable typewriter with me on my 167 B-52 missions and wrote fiction on the way back to base after a bomb run. I had a short story published in a well-known men's magazine that men usually buy to see the women. I read it the other day and it's terrible! After the service, a wife and three children were a good argument to concentrate on making some money in business and I never regretted that. After 25 years managing press associations all over America and saving my money, I decided to try the writing thing full time. I also entered graduate writing programs in two universities. It was obvious to me that I was getting too old to be "discovered" or to be the next great American writer! So I chose self-publishing, wondering what would happen. What happened is that my fiction in novella form sold books. I actually made money – not a lot – but enough to buy better bread! I have published three books now and, through my love of detective fiction, worked my way into developing two characters who inhabit my mind and my last two books. Like all fictional detectives – and a few real ones I know personally – my characters drink too much and are attracted to wayward beautiful women who have problems of their own. My latest novel – Heartless – finds my two detective friends trying to track down a nameless, insane murderer who kills for no reason and leaves no traces. Most of the action takes place in and around Roswell and Alpharetta, Georgia, upscale Atlanta neighborhoods. I think it's a great story, well told, and hope you enjoy it. I have started work on a sequel to my first book – There Is No President – with the working title of We Have Two Presidents, which may tip off the story line a little, but not much! It will be published in conjunction with the next presidential election. Many of the problems you and I can foresee in the real election will doubtless turn up in the novel along with the inevitable beautiful women. You can reach me through my web site, www.heartlessthebook.com, where you can buy the book, send me an e-mail or suggestive ideas for my characters who need all the help they can get. Thanks for reading what I write. I write not only because I want to but because I have to.
