Margot Mifflin is a journalist who writes about women’s history and the arts. Her book Bodies of Subversion: A Secret History of Women and Tattoo was the first history of Western women's tattoo culture. The Blue Tattoo: The Life of Olive Oatman is a biography of a white teenager raised by Mohave Indians in the 1850s. Looking for Miss America: A Pageant's 100-Year Quest to Define Womanhood is the first cultural history of the Miss America Pageant. An English professor at the City University of New York, Mifflin has been a lecturer and keynote speaker at colleges and museums nationally. She's served as a consultant on exhibitions at The Museum of Modern Art, The New York Historical Society, and The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County.
