Joseph Nowinski, PhD, is a Clinical Psychologist who has held positions as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of California San Francisco, Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of Connecticut, and Assistant Professor at the Hazelden Graduate School. He currently has an independent clinical and consulting practice. Dr. Nowinski is internationally recognized for his work in substance abuse treatment. He is the author of many books, including If You Work It, It Works: The Science Behind 12 Step Recovery, and Almost Alcoholic: Is My (or My Loved One’s) Drinking a Problem? Dr. Nowinski ("Dr. Joe") has been interviewed hundreds of times throughout his career and his books have been featured in The New York Times, Psychotherapy Networker, NPR, Psychology Today, and many other media outlets.
