Eddie McBoon – A Life in Shadow and Smoke I’m a writer, or at least I used to be—until Eddie McBoon showed up. He’s loud, opinionated, and claims he wrote 21 pulp thrillers back in the 1940s, “when men were men and dames packed heat.” Now, he’s in my head, narrating his life one hard-boiled adventure at a time. I just type ’em up. Simple, right? Except things are getting… weird. Eddie insists he’s not just a figment of my imagination. He says he’s real—a time-traveling author trying to reclaim his lost manuscripts. Depending on the day, they were stolen by crooked cops, torched in a drunken fire at his beach house, or snatched by his vengeful ex-wife (or was it a rival crime boss?). The stories change, but Eddie’s voice never does—raspy, relentless, and always ready to drag me deeper into his noir-soaked past. I’m not sure if I’m writing fiction anymore or just taking dictation from a guy who doesn’t technically exist. Either way, the tales keep coming, and Eddie isn’t someone you say no to. So I keep publishing. Because if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: when Eddie McBoon talks… you listen. What could possibly go wrong?
