COSMOPOLITAN Must Read Erotic Novel
NPR Swoon-Worthy Romance

[A] HAPPYMAG TV Best Erotic Novel of All Time

“A beautifully written and original story [that] has more in common with D.H. Lawrence’s Lady Chatterley's Lover (for its daring portrayal of women’s sexuality in a repressed time) than any recent romance novel.” —All About Romance,

Elizabeth Petre—Daughter of the Prime Minister and Wife of the Chancellor of the Exchequer—seeks to seduce her coldly indifferent husband. Ramiel Devington—Bastard Son of a wealthy English Countess and a Powerful Arabic Sheikh —agrees to be her tutor. The Perfumed Garden of the Cheikh Nefzaoui , an ancient Arabic treatise on Erotic Love, is their textbook.

Elizabeth and Ramiel's sexual odyssey plumbs the depths of passion even as it plunges them into the filthy, deadly underbelly of English politics. Inspired by the Cleveland Street Scandal that rocked the foundation of Victorian government.

On the whole it is a rather well-written story and the narrator is good. I thought the unraveling of the relationship of the minor characters a little too much to be gullible, but the book is otherwise well-researched on Sir Burton's translation.

An interesting story well-read

Triggers: rape, child murder, child molestation, incest.

I read a lot of erotic novels and this was dealt with very well and I liked the chemistry between Elizabeth and Ramiel. I did, however, find the sordid family saga over the top and quite unnecessary.

There were blatant inaccuracieswhich galled, e.g. electrification in London took place in the early 1900s and Prime Minsters are elected.

Also why is it that it took Elizabeth 16 years to realise she was in a loveless marriage and 12 years before she thought of seducing her husband? I also find it odd that Ramiel took her back after her horrid treatment of him. He deserved better.

Sadly, the book didn't have a good enough editor who should have deleted swathes of this book.

I won't be bothering with another book by this author.

Too long and unnecessarily sordid
