The Navy SEALs trained him.

A secret unit of the NCIS recruited him.

Enemies fear him.

For elite undercover operative Jack Widow, the news that someone shot his mother, a small-town sheriff, will unleash him in number one best-selling author Scott Blade's explosive series starter.

Pulled off an undercover assignment, Widow returns home to a small town in Mississippi - a place he tried to forget.

Taken to be a worthless drifter by the locals, Widow uses his skills to uncover the truth about his mother's last investigation. What was she looking for?

This story could have been much more. The narration is good. The story flows well, but the depth just wasn't there for me. I'd guessed the plot twists as soon as they were first hinted at and it's a real shame. The pace is good, but so many things don't add up. He's on good terms with his boss, he is some kind of black ops guy.. so why is the whole book a lone-wolf escapade.

Very good narration - shame about the story.

First off I have to say Alan Phillip Ormond voice is perfect for this brilliant thriller. Very smooth and easy to listen to .

This is the first book in this great series. Jack Widow , is an NCIS agent , who has ben under cover many times. He has to go home , as his mother, who is a sheriff and has now been shoot. Reaching her in time to say goodbye and make peace .

But now wanting to know who shot his mother, who was looking into missing girls...

This book is set at a lovely pace, with characters who you enjoy and feel as if you know.

Does he get his man...... with his training , I think you know the answer. You will enjoy the ride.

Loved this book

Who cares about the Jack Reacher comparisons. We all want more Reacher books but that’s not happening as it used to so it’s great to discover some Reacher-a-like stories. I’ll definitely be lining up the next in the series… great to see the author writes fast so there are plenty in store, yay!

Absolutely great! 100mph thriller with all you could want

I enjoyed the book but it felt like a cheap knock off of a Reacher novel. Widow is a great character. The archetypal “Batman”. The overall plot is good but the pace is slow and frustrating at times with too much dialogue and rumination. A few glaring inconsistencies also frustrated. Enjoyable nonetheless.

Worth a listen but…
