With an introduction written and read by Katie Fforde.

Hero Wantage is desperate to change her fate.

When the dashing Lord Sherry proposes out of the blue, Hero is overjoyed—she'll escape a life as a governess and, once they wed, he can finally claim his inheritance.

But as Hero attempts to social climb in glamorous London society, Sherry is concerned that her naivety will ruin them both and takes drastic action.

The chaos that follows will push friendships—and hearts—to breaking point.

Narrator speaks too quickly, spoils a good story. Great characters, complex plot well-executed. Classic Heyer.

poor narration.

Absolutely fabulous story. Superbly read. The narrator made it come alive and perfectly fitted all the voices I had in my head the many times I have read the book

Fantastic

Have read this story several time but it wasn’t until I heard it read aloud by Owen Findlay that I realised the great humour in it. You can tell Owen was enjoying it as much as I. He had the characters off to a T.

Another great read

This is one of the lightest Regency stories by the wonderful GH, with a bounty of supporting characters and comical turns. The Nemesis gag (‘who’s the Greek fellow?’) is very funny. Not as good as the Grand Sophie, but nearly. The performance is excellent in parts and not great in others - and a bit too fast. Slow it down to 0.9 to enjoy it.

Silly, witty and delightful
